I only recently discovered this highly interesting thread.
For me as a shield collector the KM Eagle with the KWM mark is even more exiting.
More than a year ago I posted a zinc Kuban shield with the same mark. Here is a link to that thread The Würster Kuban shield
For me this proofs that the zinc Kuban with the same makers mark is original. Not that I ever doubted its originality but some did.......
Even more exciting is the fact that this is the first and only Kuban at this moment which we now without a doubt can link to a maker.
Just stumbled on your last post in this thread... Congratulations! Another very nice KWM Kriegmarine Paradehelmadler!
But one has to wonder...the gold ones seem common enough but where did all the silver ones go??? If like for summer uniform breast eagles the gold were Heeres general and KM Officers while the silver ones where Heeres officers as well as KM Beamte we should be seeing a lot more silver ones right? The Assmann catalog reprint I have lists item # 27455 as "Reichsheer u. Reichsmarine Paradehelm" (Adler): same inventory # for both and the example shown looks silver but then again they do the same thing for the tropenhelm shields (same # for both Reichsheer & Reichsmarine) without a distinction for type and yet we know the eagle shield is silver for Heeres and gold for KM. So, in theory at least, the army wore these as well
