I take it based on the description of the helmet being sold, and that in said description he claims to not only find the helmet hoard, but claims that Prague was the tropical uniform depot. Adding the "planned invasions of Southern Russia" late in the war as possible justification for these helmets.

I guess it all started and ends with this one man. More leading statements to sell a helmet with the "possibilities that they are war time produced" and hot air to assist in selling these helmets. Nothing factual was presented with the exception that "yes I have one in my own collection". Ok well that says it, he must be right. LOL!

No he states that other tropical items were also found in Prague but does not clarify that the helmets were found with the other tropical items.
1985 is about the earliest date I have heard mentioned when talking about these helmets surfacing.
Maybe Karl could shed some light on the subject?

Reading the sales description it is evident to me, that he drives the buyer into believing that the helmets and tropical gear depots are one in the same. The description further contaminates the buyer with open ended innuendos to aid in the case that these helmets are not post war, but are in fact wartime produced.

I would love to see Karl enter this thread with his first hand accounts of finding the hoard of helmets.

Also its ironic that all of the original thread "fact" postings are simply direct regurgitation's of this very sales description.

as a matter of fact some of his web site helmet images were used in this thread many pages back in an effort to illustrate and identify these. Did he "discover" these...?? It's the a locals in CZ who discovered these of course and many locals believe in the Sudfront connection, AND THEY CERTAINLY DO NOT KNOW WHO SV MILITARIA IS OUT IN OHIO! BUT BELIEVE IN A POSSIBLE SUDFRONT CONNECTION... Like myself prior to dealing with this dealer...It is not some scheme out of Ohio to make a profit that started it!!! and that story got spread across the globe...my gosh!!!! Well go ahead and pat yourself on the back! You have earned your detective badge for finding the source of the Sud front intended use rumor from a small dealer in good ol' rural Ohio! WOW! Good lord!

ACTUALLY THE OPPOSITE IS TRUE... US collectors were fed the 1950's (Suez canal crisis) Egypt story (1946 dated helmet???) from the get go...so MOST FOLLOW THAT RULE OF THOUGHT! and in the process contaminating these helmets and their value from the get go...hence their cheap price from the get go...
So Karl heard from the locals in CZ about this hoard and a possible sud front connection at a time with there was no internet, not much behind the iron curtain contacts with Czechs but he was able to establish that and learn their theory in the process...that is established....but it was a theory (and still is) so these lids have always remained cheaply priced ! A lot to learn, especially back than.

So Czechs who were not fed the Egypt story have a more open mind from the get go, as they saw a lot of tropical minty gear first hand in the Prague region, even their fathers wearing this stuff early post war. (unknown to us in the US of course)

Btw he is foremost a collector secondary a dealer...owning some himself is not a sales pitch. It is a fact. So what if he is open minded about the Sudfront war time connection...it's not like he was offering these at original helmet prices...on the contrary...sold as value in parts with a possibility of a war time connection...like-minded, just like others here...hence this thread to really find out!

PS : as a kid I was interested in the Civil War, going to school in Virginia however my parents moved to Europe in 1971 (lived in Brussels and The Hague) and that is where I started collecting WW2 (living in its history), moving back to the States in 1990.

It came with an original German Luftschutzraum (air raid bunker in the basement) The house (from 1938) was war time used as a
SchuPo (SchutzPolizei) unit, officers quarters)...but now I am off topic a little bit...oh well!

Yes if you read every thread on that dealer, the so called "bad reputation" has to do SOLELY with not getting replies...not answering emails promptly. That is it. A customer service issue certainly NOT his goods ...people WANTED to get in touch with him (great items)
but could not reach him and consequently venting on WAF! I have always been lucky in that respect! He lives in an area with many vets and has had many many Dachau hoards just to name one thing...great material overall!

If you must know I have been a member of this board since 2005 under the screen name black belt. I stopped coming to this board as I simply got bored with it a few years ago. I rejoined this site, but my original user name was not available and I was unable to retrieve the data. So here we are. Same holds true for the other site so don't be fooled by the number of posts you see.

To address a your question: yes....I have been to Prague on three occasions. Most recently 2009. I have my Degree in History with a minor in Archeology from USC. My Masters in American Military History from Case Western Reserve. I have interned for my undergrad at the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles for 3 years interviewing former Soldiers and holocaust survivors. I have been collecting WWII artifacts since grade school. I have traveled Europe more than 18 times. Served in the USMC from 1995-1999 as an 0231 (Military Intelligence) with VMGR 352 out of El Toro, Ca. So I guess I might know a thing or too as well.

Tricky Nicky guess what......ready for this one.........I was born and raised in Thousand Oaks Califormia. Moved to Ohio 10 years ago. Got the name "Hollywood" when I was in the USMC....why you ask....gosh must be because Hollywod is only a short 45 minute drive from my home town. Golly gee.

Does it matter whether this guy is in Ohio or Michigan? Hell yeah It matters because the point I was making is that you are careless with your postings, and you don't verify even the smallest portions of your statements. That's why the example matters.

Also you might have noticed on the other site I am a Veteran Member...I do have photo posting privileges......another example at your lack of attention to detail. I hate doing tit for tat but man you need slow down and pay better attention pal.

I used to belong to Ohio Valley Military Society....not sure what the relevance there is, but since you asked. Haven't been a member for sometime now.

As for Europe......yep many times I have been there...again not sure why you are freaking out about that. My family is from Italy and we would summer in Avellino evey summer and travel throughout Europe. I am a huge traveler myself with my wife and daughter....again not sure why that's so relevant to you...but ok.
