This guy is from the Gruppo Esplorante of the San Marco Marines. Coming from Arditi.

paratroopers before a jump. Being para qualified myself, it always amazes me to think that these guys did not have any emergency chute. I can understand it though: during war jumps the height was so low that it would have been useless anyway.

another shot of the Nembo. You can still recognize Par Rinaldo Massi portraited before, this time wearing an helmet, bottow row, 2nd from right.

Of note is the paratrooper fourth from the left wearing a German Fallschirmjaeger Helmet. I believe his is not a German as it appears he wears the Italian collarless para blouse.

Yes, according to the memories of one of the men in the pics it was not unusual. He said that they wore also the jump smocks.
You can see also that he was equipped with a british sten he retrieved from a wrong allied supply launch to local partisans, in a previous picture you posted.
