A couple of private purchase eagles in period photos

    Hi All,

I'm posting these for the eagle collectors, as both of these studio portraits show private purchase eagles that might be branded post-war repros if they showed up on the insignia estand. Apologies for censoring the faces in these pics, but there seem to be lots of warnings in the forum about people pirating these kinds of pics, copying them, and selling them, on eBay,

Anyway, the first portrait shows a quite distinctive design. Unfortunately, the close-up detail is not great, but it does give a reasonable idea of the design.

The second pic shows a Gebirgsjager soldier, sporting an eagle that many people would not rate as original. I have to be honest, I wouldn't buy one like this! Thankfully, the picture is in very good focus, so the close-up of the eagle shows good detail of the stitching.

Hope these are useful for all fellow eagle enthusiasts, and that everyone has good weekends.

    All the best,

    Mark

      Hello Mark,

Great pictures. I am glad that you could do the close up shots. You are absolutely correct about the second one! I have probably passed a few up!

Great Job. I love seeing these.

Nice shots Mark and I understand your censoring of the pictures. I've seen pics from my collection show up in a book without any credit.

Excellent scans. I owned one like the 2nd example, bought it in the UK many years ago. After learning it wasn't 'standard' I let it go.

or Italian made M43 cap with wooden buttons and a pull down flap without button holes ?

Excellent thread, I must dig out some of my embroidered WH eagles and add them to this thread,

Early, narrow-chested eagle on what is probably the soldier's walking-out tunic.

Another variation on the same theme.
