I'm a learned historian too. Finding the right sources is of course the key to finding the thruth. But let's face it: how much of history (even recent history) can be considered as really thruthful and accurate? We can only attemp at writing the real story... There's always a chance this article can't be found digitally. After all, the BH dates from before 2004. I keep looking...

Hi, if there is a photo etc. that is good enough for me. Even mighty Post Modernism can be defeated by an image showing things in the ground. I would call the paper (s). There is always some person with a fantastic memory that remembers almost every article. The Stadtmuseum usw. must also get a lot of calls about things like that. That is really the only thing that will hlep figure this out but then you also need to determine who the ebay sellers are, what they are claiming, what they are selling etc. In the end really just tail chasing and a hunt for invisible (or at least translucent) witches. Rather boring really when there is no one to burn at the stake after a hard day of being a villager and running through the forest. I hope there is a smoking gun and a fanged killer on somewhere but to me I think what happened in pretty obvious.

The Sandman “The Wal-Mart of Militaria

After keeping up with this hilarious thread and seeing over 2000 posts to this subject one or two things come to mind. First even though we hate fakes the mere fact that they exist seems to provide almost as much interest as the originals. Second, it is also obvious that if these skulls were selling for around the usual asking price they would have receive more respect since so many people believe they are right. I know I would really hate it if I spent $200+ dollars on a skull and later found someone had bought one of equal providence for $10.00. I really think the Sandman msut be the Wal-Mart of militaria; he sells in volume for less much to the chagrin of his competitors.

At this point I really don’t know or care if they are real or not. I purchased the 3 now famous Sandman skulls that started this mess for 20 Euro or about $28.00. If they can instigate this much exercise of brain matter I really don’t think it matters much one way or another. Watching this thread unfold had certainly made them well worth the price and I’ll wish them on to everyone who has posted in this as a kind of Christmas present.

Here is a skull I had for several decades before the Berlin Hoard was found. The pins do not have the saw edge and the original plating is intact.

In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king.

Duct tape can't fix stupid, but it can muffle the sound.

Very interesting....Berlin Hoard skulls, for the most part, have the saw-toothed prongs and appear to have no plating to begin with.

I now know the name and location of the Kaserne where the "Berlin Hoard" is said to have been found and have over 100 pages of history about the kaserne and the various units garrisoned there from 1870 - 1945.

                      more later........

The scull that I showed on page 4 has serrated prongs, silver plating left on the front and back and lots of patina present.

It says: "In Jüterbog 2 .. Anfang Februar 2005 wurde die markante Turmkaserne eingerissen,"

It was the story, which a collector told me at the end of 2005. That is what I remember.....
