Berlin Hoard Skulls - What is the Deal Here?

I do not want to beat an old horse to death, but I have been puzzled about this for years.

As many of you know there has been this guy at the Kassel and Ciney show with the boxes of dirt and rocks that has skulls, wound badges and other stuff from the “Berlin Hoard”. When I first looked at this stuff several years ago something told me not to touch it with a ten foot pole….but on the other hand he wanted only 10 Euro for the skulls and I think 5 Euro for the black wound badges. He also had hollow silver wound badges for 35 Euro ….in the end I walked away every time.

I saw him again in Kassel last month and as usual walked away. But, a friend of mine picked up these three skulls.

So….are these the real deal or not? Is this hoard real or fiction. I have seen the “news paper article” that mentions the find and have read countless threads here in the WAF on the subject, but I still am confused since there seemed to be no for sure resolution on this.

Can someone help me out so I can sleep better at night knowing that these are fake…or can loose more sleep wondering why no one has bought every single thing he has is the are the real deal….to include me who has passed this stuff up on numerous occasions.

    Thanks in advance.

The sandbox man...are the things he sells artifacts that were found in the purported "Berlin Hoard" or not?

That is what I have been trying to figure out.

Is what he sells the SAME things that were found in the "Berlin Hoard" or is the sandbox man selling things NOT related to the "Berlin Hoard".

I have read the many threads about this and am still confused. Can someone help me understand the relationship betwen the sandbox man and the Berlin Hoard ...if there is one.

Thanks! And sorry to beat this poor old horse, but this has been bugging me for many years...ever since I first saw that guy in Ciney.

Each of these two types of skull can be authenticated from period photos.

These have been posted before many times.............ad nauseum.

            Try the 'search' button.

              Robin,

              Thanks for weighing in...

In fact I have used the “search button” extensively….to the point I felt I should start this thread.

50% seem to think this is proper “Berlin Hoard” material and 50% seem to think it is “Sandbox Man” (fake) material.

Having had in my hand on numerous occasions the hollow TR period silver wound badges and other things he had, I always had that feeling that something was not right……and why all the dirt and crap in the box he was selling them from?

If I had found something like that…and it was REAL…..I would at least not include a bunch of dirt and construction site debris in the box I was selling them from. Literally you have to sort through rocks and stuff to pick out what you want.

Again I add that if all of this was real then why was he not bought out right away...come on....SS skulls, cap eagles for 10 to 20 Euro each? Wound badges for 5 Euro....hollow silver ones for 35 Euro....yet I see none of these things on dealers stands at the shows.

The skulls are unfortunately everywhere.....eBay especially.

I am probably a moron to those who thrust the things from the "Sandbox Man" and it is ONLY these items I am curious about. If there is a separate and completely different hoard from the Berlin Hoard then I will respectfully go away and be able to sleep peacefully at night. If the Sandbox Man and the Berlin Hoard are connected then.....there needs to be better than 50% agreement and only relying on contemporary photographs to authenticate these items is not good enough IMHO. Keeping in mind...there was far more than just these skulls in Sandbox Man’s treasure chest.

Seems a little shady to me….but that is only my opinion…..

I hope others will comment on this, especially those, who have like me, been following Sandbox Man and his wares over the last several years.

Don't know anything about a hoard or the sandbox-man.

However, the sculls shown at the beginning of the thread are, IMO, original period pieces.

This thread will be the same like all others I'm afraid:

                    Robin states they are good
                    Others they are bad...

p.s. we are talking about the skulls with the ribbed rims on the prongs right.

                      Forget the 'sandbox man'.

It's the 'sandman' you should listen to.

I agree, he does not clean them apparently because he thinks this starts Zinc Pest and oxidization etc.

The cleaning starts zink pest? Is that reverse logic?

Anyway I like these skulls too (even have them) however on epay.de the seller of these skulls also sells a lot of other fake skulls, which made me doubt these too.
                              (I started a thread on it: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=471060 )
