Too bad, it would have been a nice piece... You think a counterfeiter that's doing a decent job dummying up the jacket and then puts a known fake on the arm would take the extra time and get a real shield!

Paul,, the boards look to be matching and aged. The tabs sure enough wouldn't be the original issued ones,, and yes, the eagle is new... . Are the front top pockets replaced? is it my monitor? I've only seen that like on a Dutch reissue etc. [?]

I second Askold's opinion. The Turkistan shield is a well-known repro/fake.

No shield when I toke this wear, I sewed one that I considered original, but I am going to sew one other original later, I had this jacket against parts,of bunker that I found in 2010. thanks

Cossack Tunic

Here's my foreign Legion tunic. I've been researching it for over a year now. The closest example I could find was that of a Platov Cossack tunic. But the Georgien volunteers also wore similar collar tabs. Let me know what you guys think!

Hi Jake,

The Georgians wore pink tabs, your's appear to be red. I am sorry to say, but the tunic looks like a bad put together. There is a whole range of such "trench made" cossack tabs circulating around.

Hi mates
here is a tunic I found in Italy many years ago. It is a little strange but has a very nice wear. We can see it has been enlarged on the rear, probably modified the collar and applied an heavy lining inside, furthermore we clearly see the sign of wearing the belt and suspender....
I would like an expert view on it and its insignia. Many thanks

Yes I too think this jacket has been transformed in coat, but I don't think postwar because it retains its insignia. The breast insignia is clearly original sewed. Normally nazi insignia were removed in a civil use. Furthermore collar and liner have the same wear of the tunic.

Indeed a converted overcoat based on the liner and overall look...Those things did happen occasionally...especially with osttruppen who would receive hand-me-downs, lacking sufficient supplies...Perhaps a greatcoat was less useful in Italy (where this uniform was found). Interesting garment for sure with that Osttruppen breast insignia.
