interesting jacket Marco.. These things are sometimes very tough to figure out.. I see some things I like, and some I don't like..

The breast insig looks original to the jacket.. True, it could have been put on 30 years ago and worn a summer by a reenactor and look just like that.. And we can say that about any jacket that comes on the entire site. IF thats the case lets all just go home.. I say many times you need a degree of faith if your going to get into For. Vol. items..

anyway - So I like the breast insig. Now the collar and lining it is easy to see they don't match the rest of the jacket. Big question is,,when was it done? Could it have been done wartime? The original very worn and approaching winter had the lining put in when the collar was done? Could be. It would have to be late war because there is little wear to the collar. For me no,,there was plenty of dead around and other places where he could have gotten a jacket and just thrown on over his worn jacket. Too new looking.. So collar and lining I don't like..

The rest of the jacket overall I like. Looks period done and a good look to the wear and tear.
The boards,,they are tricky. Something definitely infiltrated that board. A chemical, or natural substance but whatever it was messed up the board. Authentic boards and the wear to just the one is possible in my opinion [have seen worse many times] , Like them..
The shield,, Not a lot of the printed actually got issued. They didn't last long when they did make it on the arm. To make it to Italy? Be in that condition? sure possible, but probable? no, not for me, don't like..

What would look great would be the jacket with its original worn out collar, no shield, just the boards and breast insig!! It'd look great!

SO, it really gets down to what Paul, myself and others say with these kinds of pieces,,,,If you like it, happy with it, proud to own it and going to take care of it,,then ENJOY it and don't worry about what any of us say..

Thank you very much for showing it to us. [sorry for the long post] It is a very interesting jacket,,Enjoy it!

Thank you Gaspare for your kind comment.
Yes I'm also doubtful about the collar and the lining... as evidently they are of non-factory made.
However, the newly discovered photo of the Russians in Tuscany shows a uniform with a collar different from all others and very similar to that of my tunic.
Was it probably a modification in use with Russian soldiers?
I think if this was a civilian change in the postwar period, that person would probably have taken off the eagle too.
Regarding the shoulder straps, they are the ones I found with the jacket... and however, they are easily replaceable with other more beautiful ones I have.
Many thanks for your kindness Gaspare.

I am usually very sceptical of such uniforms, but this one I like! The printed shield shows consistent wear with the jacket, its not something that has been slapped on, few weeks ago. The wings and the boards show similar wear too. The yellow stain is probably a water damage.

P.S. On funny note - I found my old reenactment jacket in the basement, that has been there for few years - the piping on the board has identical moth damage too

          About the Tabs

          Hello there!
I would like to know what units do the green tabs and the red tabs represent. I know that the green with yellow piping is the Armenian and the bottom ones are for ROA Generals because of the yellow tresse (?).

          Cheers,
          RT

Its been a while since I posted anything on this thread. Here is my tunic named to RKT Major Erich Dienenthal, who commanded a Cossack Regiment. Hers a thread about the tunic and owner:

Jim, that uniform set is just shocking in it's rarity and condition. A hearty congratulation to you and this wonderful addition to your collection.

              regards, Robert

                Jim,
That wall mount with the 3 cossack sleeve shields in them, can we see a close up of that? are they bevo or embroidered?

                  Hi Greg,

They are the printed ones ( Kuban, Don and Terek). Fairly common as far as Cossack insignia is concerned. Jim

How about this piece sewn to armband remnants.
