Billy, I think my concept of "factory" differs completely from yours (and others) concerning these hats.

Still not a believer Bryon? I would think that the period photograph should be all the "proof" that you need. (it's the same hat)

I am certainly comfortable with you owning them Glenn (or anybody else) personally, not me. And to answer your question No.

            Fair enough Bryon,

Just so that you and others viewing this thread know.I found this officer M43 hat photo when viewing the photo section of the Forum seen here in post #2588.

I would not want anyone to think that I somehow photo-shopped this type of M43 hat on top of this officers head,to try and prove a point.

                Glenn,

I wouldn't think you were guilty of any type of foul play. Besides the pic came from Bill Petz a good buddy of mine and as honest as they come. Jim

I did a bit of a recreation using a similar tunic and taken in B&W.Pinched the hat in a similar fashion but the period photo is taken at a different angle.

                      Glenn

Certainly not my intent to make allusions to any "photo deviance"; and admittedly, the hat in the period picture is strikingly similar to those posted.

And not intending to "beat the dead horse," just pondering the point a bit further, to me the ratio between the red "bulls-eye" and the white circle is different on the insignia in the period picture when compared to the insignias on the "actual collector examples" i.e. white ring being wider, red "bulls-eye" being smaller on the insignias of "actual collector examples." It also appears that the white circle is a lesser diameter when compared to the "wreath" around the swastika (in the period picture) and when making the same comparison on the insignia of the "actual collector examples" the white circle is closer to being the same size as the "wreath."

I am probably off in left field here; and more likely am just an old goat who wont drink with all the rest when led to the well, (and certainly no good at Photoshop).

                        Bryon,

Look at the red bullseye in the post war photo I did above. It is larger than what it actually looks like in hand.

Also the crude vertical embroidery on the cockarde portion of the period photo, looks the same to me as well.

As I said Glenn, not to me. But then I don't intend owning any of these so it's no big deal to me.

Well I was convinced some time ago. Note also how the deformation of the swastikas' arms match.

Another rudimentary comparison using PhotoShop - Mr Petz's wartime photo on left, Mr McInnes' recreation photo (from his collection) on the right.

They look much the same to my eye.

I'd be interested in hearing from the remaining skeptics what tangible differences between the two I may be missing...
