      That one picture is certainly worth more than the thousands of words spent in discussion. I have little doubt that the hat that started this discussion (almost 2 years ago) is the same as the one Bill posted.Now I need him to let me borrow the pic or send a high rez scan of it.           Wicked cool that you found this photo Glenn. As previoulsy stated, about fifteen years ago, I acquired one of these caps that was in a sealed foot locker that included many other German items, including a camo M-40 helmet, and the GIs personal clothing. Billbert saw these items at the time.

                          Quite certainly the cap in question..the officers piping is hardly noticeable other than on the wearers left partially due to the pinch styling of the cap done by the owner and I also think to the low reflective qualities of that style piping..Billbert
                          and again Kudos to all whom participated in this learning and sometimes humorous thread
