          Love this thread. Great "out of the box" creativity in collecting and recycling!
          I just got this piece of trench art. DAF pole topper. The base piece is solid brass and is said to be a "tank" radiator cap. Just wondering if anybody knows what model?
          Keep on with the great post.

              Hi all,

              here are some other restored parts of my collection
              2 panzer IV wheels :

              The Brown colored one was excavated 2 years ago in Germany
              and was one piece of s*** , the sand on it was like stone.
              It was put for several months on a dry warm spot, and then
              cleaning up commenced.
              In the end I was able to remove the hubcab without destroying the bolts.
              The rubber rim was deliberatly destroyed ...some nerd cut out the makers
              name CONTINENTAL before he ditched the wheel back then.

              The sand colored one came from Normandy. It was a lighter case to restore...

                  how to clean up

                  Hi P.

                  how do I clean up the wheels ...well very simple ..with lots of patience !

                  when its a excavated object then it needs to dry out completely and then I start to clean up with a hammer and a chissel. I remove all dirt , sand( like stone) and rustbubbles like this.

                  Between the wheelrims I usually use screwdrivers to scrape out all the dirt and rust

                  the final clean up is done with waterpressure ( ala Kärcher)

                  then it gets electrolysed....and then new paint is applied.

                    another restored object

                    Hi all

                    This is my restored Panther Jack ( 20 ton) in working order.
                    When I got it was complete but overall slightly rusted and the mechanism was blocked.
                    It was found in a river bed

                    I had to remove several parts ( 5 rusty bolts ) as to get a look inside, to see the condition of the sprockets.
                    Inside a lot of dirt/sand was clogged to the sprockets and there was a complete absence of grease.
                    With the aid of a compressor the interior part was completely cleaned from sand, dirt and rust.
                    All movable parts were greased and the jack was back in working order and received a new paintjob.

                      Hello,

                      I already used electrolysis for small parts, like the hub cap, never for an entire wheel.
                      There is no degradation of the gummi in the electrolytic bath ?

                      Very nice job on the jack.

                        I used to have som Pz 3 parts, but sold them some years ago.
                        One of the few thing I'l keept was thise one.
                        And I guess you understand why.

                            Hia all,

                            P. The electrolyse doesn't affect the rubber rim , it only attacks the rustbits.
                            the tub you use to do electrolyse in , has to be of plastic too.
                            For the larger objects I use a big rubbber maconery tub.


                            J. nice dataplate....I think I remember the parts you had from that target range wreck up in Norway ....why is the fgst n° blured?

                            Today I ammused myself cleaning up that JGPZ commandershatch ( see pic earlier post)
                            A few kg of darn hard dirt could be removed from the hinges and the spring was freed.
                            The rotating episcope is blocked I wanted to take it appart but the bolts are stubborn
                            so I scraped out all debris and dirt in its fitting and then I pored some penetrating oil in it ....now we 'll just have to wait
