Maybe it will be easier to put the pictures of it on my photobucket, then all can access it. Give me a few more days to get it completed.

MG 42 mounted in a 222
Here is one pic showing a 42 mounted within a 222. I know of a few more too and will try and locate them as well. It is no surprise that later war photos of 222s showing a 42 are hard to find. When you take into consideration that all private cameras and photos were banned in 43 and the fact that by late 43/44 many of the 222s were just rusting blown up heaps of scrap metal.
They were officially authorized to mount 42s within the 222s and I dont know why any vehicle or AufkAbt commander woudl not do so given the opportunity.

Cool photos. The first is not a 222, but a SDKFZ 234/1 (8 wheel armored car)with the six sided turret which is 30mm thick at the front, and the front visor is a thicker type so that the entire front of the vehicle was proof against 2cm AP rounds.
The second looks like the 222 turret for sure, with the earlier low screens which is interesting. I wish I could see the mount.

I thought so too perhaps when noticing how thick the armor was on the turret. I do have 2 other very obvious 222 pics with 42s mounted in them. I will find them and post ASAP.
Thanks again for your help and input,N

All the measurements were taken off of Littlefields original 222 when it was being restored, and all the components were seperate, including the armor. I have seen the others, and they are not correct in regards to angles, sizes of the plates, etc. If you want to make a dead on reproduction, you should go to either the patton museum or visit Littlefields museum ( best ). If you compare photos of the original to the other reproductions, you will see the differences. It escapes me why the gentleman who made a few, didnt copy Littlefields?
The originals also had 18" wheels, which ive only seen on the CA reproduction. The correct tires are available from Lehar in CZ. Where you find 18" correct wheels now, ???
Also, in regards to "Oscha. Norberts 222", could you provide some original photos of the MG42 anti-aircraft ( ? ) mount seen at camp roberts? I cant seem to find any, or MG-42's mounted on 222's either? Not an attack, just that my reference is evidently limited on this vehicle. Thank you.

Reproduction SdKfz 222/223
Hey, just wanted to thank you for the British Army report of 1943 on the SdKfz 222and all of the technical info therein, you gave me this past weekend .
I have thought all along that the one I have that Mike Scholer made was pretty close to being an accurate size, but this report helps prove it with real data. After reading the report you gave me I had to measure mine and compare it to this documented example.
As you know it is an on-going process of improving the many things necessary to make these vehicles accurate representations of the originals and I still have more to do on mine.
Here are the actual measurements of mine compared to the British Army report(Preliminary Report No.8 German 4-Wheeled Armoured Car (Sd.Kfz.222) Februaray 1943).
The height measurement on the reproduction is based on the current 20" tires. Of course original WWII 222 had 18"(US size) tires. The 20" tires therefore add 1" to the overall height.
Height not including grenade cage -original =5'11.5" ....reproduction=6'2"
Overall length including tow hooks-original =15'7" ....reproduction=15'6"
Center of tire to opposite tire center-original =5'5" ....reproduction=5'5"
Outside of rear fender to opposite outside rear fender
-original =6'6.5" ....reproduction=6'4"
Thanks again !
