A fine-looking display, Phronsias -- is this an AH Formal Dinner Napkin or one from the Luncheon service? And what does the paper below the napkin add to it?

          Congrats on an elegant display,

          Br. James

            Hi
Thank you for the complement, I bought the informal napkin from Brent Smith, who I must say was very helpful and a pleasure to deal with. The note was written by the vet,( who picked up a few items from the Berghof,) saying where he acquired the napkin. The frame as I said is American black walnut and takes 10 years to season, it really is a beautiful wood. I've applied for the service records of the vet and will glue them on to the back of the frame.
            Thanks again

                Hi and thanks
Its funny, I can have Japanese flags on my walls and people say "it looks great, like pop art"but when it comes to anything TR ,its a different story.
                Thanks again

Thanks for the additional info, Frank. I haven't studied AH napkins too closely but it was my impression that the AH Informal Napkin was beige in color, while the Formal was white. Your napkin appears to be white, though perhaps that's due to the photograph?

I do agree that Brent Smith is a pleasure to deal with! Congrats again to you!

James, you're correct, the beige napkins are the informal ones.

                            Donald Grey Brownlow Flatware

                            Hello All,

I wanted to share an indirect veteran pickup of eleven pieces of AH’s flatware. I was fortunate to be contacted by the estate of the individual that purchased the flatware directly from the veteran, Donald Grey Brownlow. It came to me with the original signed/sealed letter of provenance, from Brownlow, stating that the three informal pieces were acquired from the Brown House, the national headquarters of the National Socialist German Worker's Party, and eight formal pieces from the Hitler’s home in Obersalzberg, in May of 1945.

Brownlow landed on Utah Beach during the D-Day invasion and later partook in the Battle of the Bulge. During the battle in the Ardennes, he and two other members of his unit were captured by SS troops, but the men were fortunate to escape two days later. Mr. Brownlow earned a Purple Heart after shrapnel from a German tank shell wounded him. He also earned a Bronze Star for finding and deactivating a minefield. He was awarded the Croix de Guerre from the French government.

When he came back to the US, he became a history teacher at a Pennsylvania University and also authored several books about WW2. Three of his signed books, “Panzer Baron”, “Hell was my home” and “The Accused” came with this lot of flatware. This is a wonderful find and I’m thrilled to have received it. You can find various pieces of AH silverware/flatware out there, but very few with this kind of direct provenance.

                            -Mike
