      Dear friends,

The upcoming Alexander Auction on Sept 10-11 contains a Coburg artifact that could make someone very happy! Here is part of the listing:

      Sale 50 Lot 301

PRESENTATION COBURG BADGE STAINED GLASS WINDOW
Fine original stained glass window, 11 1/2" x 15", an image of the famous Coburg Badge given to veterans of that early Nazi clash which bears the legend: "MIT HITLER 1922 1932". Beneath is a painted inscription: "PRESENTED BY THE PRINCIPAL MAYOR OF THE CITY OF COBURG 15.X.1940". A very carefully constructed piece, believed to be from the estate of FRITZ WACHTLER (1891-1945), Gauleiter of Bayreuth...

      Cheers, all,

      Br. James

Lots of interesting stuff as well as lots of questionable items. Hitler's ring is interesting and I would never have though something this garish would have been owned by him. Then there is the Mother's Cross with diamonds. They do say it is controversial in the description. Can't help but think if this were an actual award and not instituted in the last day of the war, the woman in my grandparent's Austrian village that had 27 kids would have received this instead of the common gold version she received.

I' couldn't agree more, Richard! I had to take a second look at that ring; like you, I couldn't imagine that anyone would design and present a piece as garish and ostentatious as that to Hitler...or even to Göring, for that matter!! I did find the display mount to be interesting...

Erich, I thought ownership was still in debate after the last time it was 'sold' there is a thread somewhere about the auction house not paying out, struggling etc. Maybe its all sorted now?

At least for the absentee bids I stayed ahead of the competition by a whisker.

And who won the item? Did Kris make a successful bid?

Thanks for the heads up Chen. A super grouping to include a 1st pattern CB which I'm sure will go for big $!
