We managed to go to Germany for two weeks this year in June and visit Neuschwanstein Castle as well as Hohenwerfen in Austria (the castle where they filmed "Where Eagles Dare"). They had a great bird of prey show there and the castle tour was extremely interesting as well. Spent time with my 93 year old uncle who was in the Luftwaffe Flak who escaped from British POW camp and always has some interesting stories about his experiences in the war.
The kids got to spend about a week with Grandma and got to try out her new riding mower which she bought to replace her 40 year old tractor. Cost of the vacation with memories which my kids will have for a lifetime........... less than what a Coburg badge appears to be bringing currently. I won't ever say I don't want a Coburg badge as I would love to be able to hold that piece of history in my hand anytime I feel like it but, in the long run, I have to choose what is most important in life once the price reaches levels at which my discretionary income forces me into decisions of one or the other. I think my focus will be more along the lines of Reichsparteitag items and Gau badges which, for the time being, are occasionally still within my budgetary reach. Didn't mean to hijack the thread with personal stuff but wanted to be sure der-hase-fee knows where my heart really is.

I completely understand. I could have bought some wonderful pieces, lately, but my only daughter just got married and I wanted her wedding to be perfect. I had more pleasure, seeing her get married and having the wedding of her dreams, than I would have gotten with a new trinket that would be safely locked away.

Like life in general, we must live within our means when collecting or it can get out of hand in a hurry. Like already said, family first everything else second.
I think that the CBs that you're seeing of late are coming from older collections and in some cases from the families of the recipients themselves. The 1st pattern sold by HH a few years ago went to Russia and my guess is many more will go to the east to never be seen again.Last edited by ErichS; 10-25-2014, 09:05 AM.

These badges have the same flaw as the other two 1st and 2nd Pattern so are fom the same maker. The catch also opens to the left.
IMO 189's aren't worth a premium and I don't know what the price was anyway as it has been removed.

IMHO, I think the RZM 189 variant would be second to most desirable being the first pattern largely due to the fact that it has been less seen than the RZM ones and the RZM with a 189 marking actually fulfils the standards of what we would expect from a badge when it had a larger production run - stamped with approval from the RZM office and the 189 numerals which i suspect would refer to the manufacturer's mark. Of course I don't have definitive proof but to each his own opinion.
So we have two variants of second patterns. A few just with RZM and only one posted (in this thread) with RZM189.
