That's a good question Jon, maybe it was a cost cutting move due this award being struck before Hitler came to power when money was tight. The German Order only awarded a few times was not numbered either.

Mark, thanks a lot for adding the recipients list to this thread. Gauleiter Franz SChwede Coburg was a later recipient of the award as well. Like the Blood Order, Hitler used his descrection in making Honor awards of the CB.

Stan, there's a good chance the photo error was mine. When I downloaded Jim's photos, I may have used the obverse of your badge when posting them. I no longer have Jim's photos or your photos in my files, so I don't know for sure. Anyway, sorry for the mistake. Best, Erich

Mark, the Franz Fuchs listed is same man who's Blood Order I have in my collection, # 626. He was in SA Munchen.

Apologies guys. I sent a scan of a badge I have on file. Here are 2 updated photos of my award.

Thanks Jim for solving the mystery. Again, congrats on a very rare first type badge.

Glad to help with the names list

I'll never have the financial resources to own one, but both for it's history (early NSDAP and SS is a major personal interest)
and the handsomeness of design it is my favorite 3rd Reich badge. So have to settle for research.

Had 1 image on the thread as my wallpaper for awhile, but rather frustrated me not owning one so changed it

Is his book on the subject (Coburg rally) a rare item ?

Mark, as you can guess, the CB along with the BO are two of my all time favorite NSDAP awards along with being the most historically important IMO.
der- hase, the short answer is YES!

Jim, did your Coburg badge come from a Hamburg dealer? I handled one with similar scratches on the reverse center before I'd bought mine. Very nice piece!

I picked up a copy of"Kampf um Coburg" from a fellow forum member and the book goes very nicely with the Badge! I wish my photography skills were better but you get the idea.
