The wreath looks like it was never worn. I came in aold cardboard box that seems to be a perfect fit.

Reverse. This Was Found In A Vet's Cigar Box Full Of Souvenirs. I Forgot About It Completely Until Recently When I Moved.

Great thread. I do not collect these things except for the common cased medal as shown by Raymond in post 30 and the usual small pin. I also have this photo showing the pin in wear...not much but I like it!

                        olympics

Phil, those are incredible items!! My ex insurance agent was in the 1936 Olympics. His teenage age son had thrown a party, and someone, they never found out who, stole all his medals and souvenirs. They never recovered any of them.

                            Hi all,

just found this interesting thread on the 1936 Olympics!
I returned from a visit to Germany on Sunday, and whilst in the Ruhr valley picked up a medal in a junk shop which seems to commemorate the event.
I do not have a scanner or digital camera, so cannot post any images yet.
The medal is the size of an Ostmedal, is circular and in silver.
The obverse bears laurel leaves around the edges, with a stylised "Greek" athletes head in the centre; below this is the text "4711- ERINNERUNGOLYMPIA 1936 BERLIN".
The reverse has the same laurel leaves around the edge, with a depiction of the Olympic bell in the centre with again "4711" in an oval in the centre of the bell.
Below the bell is the script "KOLN GLOCKENGASSE".
The medal has a loop and ring (unmarked).
Just speculation, but possibly the medal was to commerorate a factory who produced the ceramic bells for the Olympics.
Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated

                            Best regards,

                            John.

                                The wreath is stunning!

I don't have the following pieces anymore - officials badges - but they belong in this thread. Perhaps somebody will find some more examples?

                                Best,
                                Toby.
