I'm not aware of anything like that taking place...it could be possible but not likely. The appearance of the uniforms being new is probably because many of those POW's in Canada were captured early in the war 1940/41 based on dates on many of the postcards. Bill

I know that the CO and Li of U 550 received new navy blue Kriegsmarine uniforms while being POW.

Great! Please fill us in on who furnished them. Was it through captured stocks in possession of the Allies , Red Cross or through packages from Germany??

I know that the CO and Li of U 550 received new navy blue Kriegsmarine uniforms while being POW.

Hi Bill,

I have no idea where they got their new uniforms from.

The men were captured after the sinking of U 550 in their all day wear.
Received "new" cloths on the US Destroyer, a mixture of US clothing.

Later while being a POW they are wearing new looking Kriegsmarine uniforms, photos I have must be taken after May 1945 as there are no eagles on the uniforms.
