I recently bought this 1 OKT medal with packet. I believe it says Gefreiter Heinz Fischer, Flugzeugfurher ??? and unit number, then below it is a location that I can't quite make out. I'd appreciate your help on this.
                Thank you,

In the line after the name it's "Flugzeugfuehrerschule" and the second part could be Tulln Donau. Schuelerkompanie

                  See http://wuerstchenundbier.com/5b20587164762c24.html

The reference includes " Flugzeugführerschule „"F.F.S. A/B 112 Tulln“, Luftkriegschule 7 – Tulln " which seems to correspond to the numbers 7/10112 on the packet as well.

Thanks Paul, that all makes sense to me. I thought that as a Gefreiter it was unlikely he was a pilot, so him being just a member of the staff/cadre at a pilot school makes sense. The airfield was also not far from the Czechoslovakian border, so them participating in the occupation of the Sudetenland would also be likely.

Actually, the packet indicates his address as in a "student company" so he could have been in the flight school as a participant. He may have completed the course and gone through the ranks. He could have failed and been transferred to something else or never made officer rank and not on the officer's list. However, maybe additional research could place one of these men at Tulln.

Just for information sake, here are three Heinz Fischer's who were Luftwaffe officers and seem to have been commissioned as officers late enough to be Gefreiter in 1938.

FISCHER, Heinz. (DKG). 26.02.43 Lt., 3./KG 100 awarded the DKG.

FISCHER, Heinz. (DOB: 22.05.17 in Berlin-Dahlem). (R, DKG). 22.06.40 Oblt. in 1.(St)/Tr.Gr. 186. 04.05.42 Oblt., awarded the Ehrenpokal. 12.05.42 Oblt. and Stafü 9./St.G. 1, WIA - shot down during an attack on tanks near Lipovik and force-landed near the front lines;wounded in left arm but able to return to unit the next day. 27.05.42 awarded DKG, 9./St.G. 1. 26.10.42 Staka 9./St.G. 1. 1942 in III./St.G. 1 (to 26.10.42). 26.10.42 Hptm. and Staka 7./St.G. 1 (or 9./St.G. 1?), KIA - in Ju 87 D-1 (J9+AL) during a mission over the Volkhov salient north of Lake Ilmen; hit by AA fire 1 km NE of Strelitzi. 25.11.42 Hptm., posthumously awarded a Ritterkreuz, Staka 9./St.G. 1. Credited with 465 missions.

FISCHER, Heinz. 24.08.42 Lt., awarded the Ehrenpokal. 30.07.43 Oblt. and Beobachter (observer) in NAGr. 1, KIA – in Fw 189 A-2 rammed by a shot up aircraft and crashed at Orlova in the Donets Basin area.

Not sure of the first line "Stelf.... 41" but the caption reads "Die Latriene ist gebaut" or "The latrine ist built." (which is why they are squatting over the dug out trench.)
