#6187 - It's a highly emotive, patriotic style poem - no personal details. A few words I'm not quite sure of, so will let a native German post a translation.

" Du bist stark, stolz und rein,
Dein Auge erfüllt von mildem Schein,
Du bist ein Freund um den man bangt,
mit Worten ich Dir nie gedankt
doch meine Seele, Geist und Augenschein
      sollen stets Dein Begleiter sein.

      Zur Erinnerung an Deinen
      Kameraden Max

      Zwieahel, 20. April 1943 "

The place name is a Polish town.

        Gerdan , checkit

Thank you very much for taking a look at this. Any relationship to Stalingrad is gone with the exception of the rgt slides in the photo. I wonder what the significance to the Polish town is with this soldier?

Here is the translated version of Gerdans read for those interested.

""You are strong, proud and pure,
Your eye filled with mild appearance,
You're a friend to the you fear
I never thanked you with words
but my soul, mind and appearances
        should always be your companion.

        In memory of your
        comrades Max

        Zwieahel 20 April 1943 ""

        Thank you again.

If the poem is dated "Zwieahel 20. April 1944" normally it should be written that day in that place -

if not the date and place name should not make any sense.

May be the soldier Max met his comrade in Zwieahel in the same unit.

Hi, can anyone help read the place name on the back of this photo please? It's a company administration 'set up' in a field

            thanks

It is a bit strange that he was instructed 5 times on the same subjects in the short time from

November 1944 - March 1945 from the same instructor "R." and it had to be documentated.

                                Greetings,

I am wondering if my research has properly ID'd this book. If anyone is interested this and its contents I will send more pics. I am curious to know what the subject matter is etc. I had posted on GMIC and now realize that forum is focused on medals.

                                Thanks in advance! George
