The origin of the rifle and the bayonet is "franz.(ösisch)" - French! Correct!

            A Luftwaffe Portrait Postcard --

            Gentlemen,

Here is a portrait of a Luftwaffe Oberleutnant.

Can you translate the reverse please?

As a note, called somebody a "flasche" is a put down, meaning they're weak or ineffective [but in this case is probably a joke shared among friends]. There's also the word "Lusche" (spelling?) or "Waschlappe" (washcloth) that are about the same.

Thanks to everyone. Another friend who is a WAF member and active here in translations also wrote me privately and said that this word "Flaschen" could be translated into American English as a "loser" or "douche bag". I thought that was pretty good! It really added some life to this photo -- a man who felt strongly about such things. I have known similar types in the military.

How would this translate to English? Any help with the SA unit would be great also.

"Unserm Sturmfuhrer in Liebe u. Treue gew.
                            S.A. Mar. Sturm 13 Lu"

                            Bing translator just gives me...

"Our Sturmfuhrer in love and loyalty by weight.
                            S.A. Mar. Storm 13 Lu"

Maybe he was just a big guy.

                            Thanks in advance.

In general you did a good translation but the abbreviation "gew." means "gewidmet" - dedicated/devoted.

Now it makes sense. In English it would have been phrased something like...

"Dedicated to our Sturmfuhrer in love & loyalty
                                S.A. Mar. Storm 13 Lu"

Now I just need to research the SA unit.

                                Thank you so much.

I was finally able to get a decent shot showing the inscription.
