Here is a photo that is actually in my collection that I own. It was found in a flea market in Reggio Emilia .

Most of the others have been harvested from the Internet ,other forums and some of the most recent from a doctoral thesis .

Notice the skull and partially visible metal on his m42 hat

Dear Dennis,

The military history of the guy wearing the tropical uniform is well known, his name was Cirillo Covallero and he was a member of the SS-Polizei-Division in the Balkans and deserted to join the RSI units. He died in 2009.

There's another interesting memories book of an italian LSSAH veteran, a former Battaglioni M member by the way; the front cover clearly shows him wearing the runic tab.

If I recall correctly at least 2-300 italian men joined the LSSAH, I should check my sources.

The pictures of the funeral are not related to the Debica, but to the 2.Kp.\SS-Wehrgeologen-Btl. 500 along the valli del Pasubio\north eastern Italy; that unit had some ethnic italians enlisted too.
That's the funeral of the dolmetscher SS-Schütze Wainer Novellini from Milan, pictures taken on 02.12.1944.

Ethnic italians joined quite a few WSS divisions; several hundreds of them joined the 24.WGDdSS Karstjaeger (some of them wearing runic tabs), Prinz Eugen, SS-Polizei-Division, Reichsfuhrer-SS and Goetz von Berlichingen just to list a some of them.

Not properly SS, if I recall correctly they are italian men attached to the SD Biella in front of Villa Schneider, their HQ.
If I'm not wrong the collage one is not from Avanguardia, but a post war "Wanted" -like poster related to the SD-Biella italian members.

I am also aware of the names you sighted. I just didn't post them.
I wasn't sure about how Covallero went over to Decima Mas. That's interesting about the deserting to join the RSI. He must have had strong nationalism or was this maybe just post war apology since he actually did not change sides. Do you know how he was recruited? Have you read the doctoral thesis ? Unfortunately I can only take some information as my Italian is little to very little. Knowing only mostly military termonalogy . I was also quite confident he was in the 4th SS Polizei.

Covallero was already a member of the 9° Reggimento Alpini at the date of 08.09.1943: following the italian armistice, he was actually deported to Germany were he was asked if he would have liked to join the SS: he agreed and was transferred to the SS-Polizei-Division fighting in the Balkans.
In 1944 he was moved to Pinerolo only God knows why, and there he deserted to the XMas: then he was sent to fight the partisans around Tarnova in north eastern Italy.
He also recall another italian guy from Pola actually joined the SS along him.

Quite a few italians joined the SS-Polizei-Gebirgsjaeger-Regiment 18 too.

I'm currently conducting some research into this subject of Italian SS volunteers and I'm particularly interested in the Officer with the film camera.

I spotted him again at the end of this clip.

Does anyone know who he is and if he was really part of a Propaganda unit or just interested in the camera?
Also, who is the Luftwaffe Generalmajor?
