Mark--I realize your focus was the DR, but did you ever meet Wunsche, and do you have any post-war pics of him?

And do you have any info as to the alleged rivalry between Peiper and Wunsche? Supposedly they didn't care for each other during the war, and this continued afterwards....

No, never met Wunsche though we wrote. Even in that aspect he was rather "stand off-ish" even after I did some research for him. The rival aspect never came up, just basic questions I needed was hard to get from him.

Lots of PC problems and had to order a new one, won't be able to post images till new system here.

Great thread!! It is most interesting to see pics of these soldiers half a century after the war ended. Mark, I hope you get your ciber problems sorted out real soon and continue to post more great pics. Thanks for sharing.

                Hi Mark,

Thank you very much for taking the effort to post these pictures.
Collectors tend to forget that the items that we own is nothing compared to the experiences that these men went.

                Cheers,

Not a KC holder but (for me) a historical individual and related to my research/writing.

Hans Kempin, he commanded at different times:
                          the SS Panzergrenadier School Kienschlag
                          the SS NCO School Posen-Treskau
                          led the Army's 547.Volksgrenadier Division
and was a commander of 32SS Division "30 Januar"

Also among the earliest members of the "Leibstandarte" and led a battaliion with Regiment "Der Führer" in the first Russian campaign

taken by me at his farm in '82 or '83

                              Thanks Harmel

Kempin still the tallest proportionate fellow I've ever met personally.

Close friends for more than 60 years

Panzer Regiment "Das Reich" KC holders Fritz Langanke (left) and Ernst Barkmann. Both are still living though Barkmann is in very poor health.
