            Now comes the part I dread, updating the list and removing names.

            May they all rest in peace.

              Thanks to a thread contributor BjornS, we have two new names to add:

              Karl Heinz Gieseler (SS, RK 29.04. 1945)
              Max Heimo Rehbein (Heer, RK 05.03.1945)

                Hi Andrew,

                Re Gieseler a lot of discussion has taken place about him and his not being a genuine RKT.

                He certainly isn't recognised as one by Veit Scherzer together with many other late war awardees, however even the OdR do not recognise him even going so far as to describe him as a liar and a fraud !!!

                He appears in the first edition of Jost Schneiders SS RKT Book but is excluded from the second edition as research found no trace anywhere of him being awarded the RK except from Gieseler himself.

                regards

                Paul

                  Paul, So much for that.......... I guess 50% is better than 0%

                  I had seen several references to him as having been awarded the RK, but they were all secondary references.

                  Interesting enough I did find a list for his awards. Certainly his military service was quite distinguished even without the RK.

                  DKiG 4.12.1944
                  EK I: 3.06.44;
                  EK II: 3.08.43;
                  Nahkampfspange II.Stufe (Silber): 21.02.45;
                  Nahkampfspange I.Stufe (Bronze): 14.01.44;
                  Fallschirmschützen-Abzeichen des Heeres: 13.05.44;
                  Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen: 11.12.43;
                  Verwundetenabzeichen in Silber: 29.03.45;
                  Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz: 5.12.43

                  I will remove his name from the list.
