But no goodwill here, just profit. Sorry you are unable to discern the difference.
    Dear Brian,

I do discern the difference of what you are stating; it is just that I do not believe/agree with you that he is obligated by some unwritten "goodwill" rule. As I stated in an earlier post none of us can judge Martin. He stated several times he bought it for his collection and then another piece came up more in line with his collecting interests. He is now selling the goblet to cover the cost of the grouping. I have no reason to doubt him. He is free to put any price on the piece he wants. Since when is someone required to give a break to someone on the forum. I have bought plenty off the e-stand and paid above market value for some pieces. No break for me. I did not hold it against the seller. I know that there were some nice profits made off the sales of some of those pieces since they hd been sold on the e-stand before and were coming back up for sale by collectors who needed cash for other purchases.

This suggests that the potential buyer does not condone such practices (as I would assume most would not, if they were actually honest) and that affects thier decision to purchase or not. If this was perfectly okay, it should have no bearing whatsoever on the sale of the item.

The oakleaves example is what I would hope would occur more often. But, according to most on this thread, that sale was just stupid, as the seller helped out himself and another collector. I guess I am just stupid.
      I'am sorry Bill

It is truly sad to see how some people have high moral standards on behalf of others. Do you have any idea what consequences this thread has for Martin and his economy? But off course you don´t need to have any moral quarrels about that? It´s not your money. Easy to discuss, when you have nothing to loose.

If it a discussion of principle, no names was needed to be mentioned. But it started out with a direct link to Martin´s sale.

I think that some here should be ashamed of them selfs, being so careless.

        Best Regards

          Provocative quote removed

Martin, you are right about one thing, for that I'll credit you.

In this hobby, if you offer enough money, anything can be purchased. Anything at all that is in the domain of our hobby can be bought if you offer up the cash. What makes the hobby fun for some is to find a little treasure and get it for a price that's below stick-it-up-your... high. For that little pleasure we know who to turn. Someone should buy the goblet. It's a great treasure. But it's just a purchase, not a find.

I can't recall burning any witches recently. Again, if this is such a great thing, events will unfold and make it so. The goblet will sell (it should speak for itself) and Martin will assume his 100% profit and everyone will be happy. As far as the "hard work" and doing "homework", this was already done on the sales post on Collector's Guild. Martin just copied it. The only work done was licking the stamp and closing the envelope to send a check. If that is worth $4500, so be it. Again, lets have all the people who really like this goblet step up and buy it.

                  Dear WenRan (Randy),

I think you meant to direct your comment to Bill W. and Jeff V. Bob (if you were referring to Bob Coleman) supports Martin.

Your English is good...much better than my Flemish!

It is Friday afternnon as I read this.

This thread, if it had merit to begin with, quickly lost it before the end of the second page, with numerous posts that sounded too much like "sour grapes", not to mention character assasination.

I am going to close this thread, allowing time for the moderators of this section of the forum to see it and to make decisions about it and/or issue infractions or suspensions which, in my view, are well deserved by at least two members posting in this thread.

                      Thanks, Bill!

I've read the thread and have removed those posts that I think are offensive. The posters whose posts were removed can take that as a warning.

I think it is a good thread with good varying viewpoints, however, I think this "Goblet" discussion has run its course on this Forum so I am closing the thread again.
