Hi,
Looking now, from here, to the Spanish "White Cross" in the photo posted by TerryG (very nice foto!) it seems that this white one is bigger in size than the red one model.
What is your opinion? Is that true, or is just my impression from the photo?
Also I noticed that in the red ones there are different styles of "castles".
Is that true that also were produced in Italy? When? During the Mussolini's period?
Thanks for informing me with the maximum information you know about this cross.

Ciano - that's a very nice cross. These were produced by different manufactures in Spain, so some differences in the castles (and other details) can be observed. I've not heard that these were produced in Italy (?). Italy produced their own medal for Italian volunteers in the Spanish Civil War.

Thank you again for your input.
Yes, me too, I always assumed that they were the same size...
No more inputs out there about their sizes?
cheers

Hi everyone,
I******180;ll try to answer some question about the Spanish Red - White Military Merit Cross.
The crosses awarded to the Legion Condor members were early examples which were the same in size except in colour ( Red or White ).
The crown ( a small one, compared to later types ) is attached to the cross, while in later models it******180;s movable. Also the center is bigger than post types.
A Spanish militaria dealer once told me long ago that the early examples of this cross like those awarded to the legion Condor were manufactured in Italy during the Spanish Civil War, as the factories were in enemy territories.
The cross Ciano shows in post 126 is a late war example made in Spain. Very good quality. I would say early to mid 1940******180;s. Still in use those days to reward veterans from the Civil War and the Blue Division members in Russia.
( After the Civil War everything was a mess, and it took long to confirm heroic deeds and reward soldiers ). That******180;s why the red and white crosses shown toghether in post 129 are different.
Scott is right about the award criteria between both classes. I would put the example for german medals of the EK2 as the Red Military Merit Cross and the KVK2 as the White Military Merit Cross.
I hope this information helps you somehow.
Best regards,
Adolph.

Buenos Dias,
Muchas Gracias!
Thank you very much for your complete explanation.
So I would say that that the Red one was produced between 1940-1945.
Regarding the White one, the crown is not movable, so shall I conclude that the white Cross is an earlier model than the red one posted, so produced during the Spanish Civil War 1936-1939?
regards
Ciano
