3 Nice picture's taken south of Dordrecht. The 2nd is welknown. It was taken may 12th 1940 about 18:30 hrs. Fj's and their unarmed Dutch POW's are watching a german airstricke on Dutch arty positions near Strijen. The barracks you see are from the Dutch 17 R.A. near Tweede Tol. Left the road to Willemsdorp, near the Moerdijk bridge. The car you see on the left(near the stairs):, well there your picture of the wounded FJ was taken. Some of us thought it to be a Dutch pow. And remember the picture of FJ listening to a Dutch car's radio?

2 Nice details. Both these picture's were shown in the book " Die bildchronik der Fallschirmtruppe" from Arnold von Roon(Co. 3/FJR2, who was dropped wrongly during Fall Gelb, page 53 of his book, but nut telling it was his unit )
The picture of the wounded FJ he used to prove that the German took care of Dutch wounded....... This picture... well I quote:"Full of consternation, Dutch and German soldiers observe the bombing of Rotterdam. One could almost think that they already knew about the tragedy of this event. This picture clearly showd how every soldier hates war".

This picture was taken 2 days before the bombing at a distance of at least 20 km from Rotterdam.

I'm trying to identify the other 2 locations, and if possible a story to go with them.

    Cheers

The first pic with the Opel Blitz's has got me thinking this is a "after the fight" picture. The Dutch had some Opel Blitz also, but not that many and most surtenly not south of Dordrecht. I'm sure this picture is taken south of Dordrecht, I just can't remember the name of the place. I'll print this picture, jump on the bike and have a little look-around next week. Looking at the Blitz's tells me 9th Panzer had allready arrived, so we're talking may 13th or may 14th. The fact the FJ's don't wear the "knochensack" make's me believe fighting is over for them. Most FJ Dordrecht-combat picture's show almost all the FJ wearing their knochencack, just one or two don't.
Or there must be some writting on the back of the picture?

Thanks for providing the information and history of the second photo. I knew it was associated with the other photo I previously posted on this thread (same Dutch car in all the photos). It also came out of the same estate grouping but unfortunately there is no wrtingi on the reverse of the photos to give any indication of location. - Bill

Wonderful photos Bill! You have a superb collection!

I have to agree with "Falllschirmjäger," I don't think photo 235 was taken on Crete during the invasion. If it is labeled so, I believe this is a mistake. Tropical uniforms were in production before the invasion, but were worn on Crete during the invasion in extemely limited numbers. I do not believe any überfallhosen were worn during the invasion. Some Fj departing Africa passed through Crete on the way home to Germany, and of course there were occupation forces.

Photos 241 and 242 are classic, typical Crete invasion photos.

The officers in photo 243 are key to the invasion and famous. I am shocked, and a little disappointed, that no one has mentioned this or ID'ed them!

          Regards,
          John

I can only identify the two middle ones.. If I'm not mistaken they are Bruno Brauer and Wolf-Werner von Der Schulenburg? ( I sincerely hope I din't make a fool out of myself internationally! )

            Best wishes

To the best of my knowledge the man standing up in the middle of the picture is Oberstabsarzt Dr. Heinrich Neumann, commanding the "FJ. Sanitäts. Abt. 7", dropped on the northern bridgehead of Moerdijk, south of Dordrecht. There are some details (Red Cross band, Blue Collar tabs) that lead us to think this way...
              Best regards. Óscar

                Yannis,

Thanks and I'm glad I still have connections to very good friends in Germany who find such photos for me (I will be picking up a bag full photos at the SOS this month). l occasionally find some on ebay but that is becoming an expensive venture these days. I believe one of the officers on the end in the shirt is Kurt Veth - Bill

Post 231 And The Flamethrower One

First the 231 looks like tunisia maybe,is that right?,and this flamethrower one is it training maybe?or is that the suit(white?) they wear with it in combat or not, training i think.

I don't believe #231 is in Tunisia and taking a look again at #235 & #237 with the motorcycle it could be Italy (nothing on the reverse indicates location), The FJ with the Flamethrower is definitely in a training mode wearing the white trainng uniform most likely in HBT

There is another strong indication that the photo on post 235 was taken in Italy. The jäger on the far right wears a net on his helmet. Helmet nets were widely worn in Italy. I do not remember nets being worn in Africa or on Crete.

Of course you are correct Yannis, Oberst Bräuer and von Schulenburg are in the "officer" photo. Von Schulenburg also won the RK. Sadly, he was killed in Normandy in the summer of 44.

                          Hello John,

I have a few photos of LW soldiers wearing helmet nets in Italy but I understand they were also widely worn in Normandy as well.

Do you know who the other two are in the photo with Br******228;uer amd Von Schulenburg? I took a stab at identifying one...Kurt Veth - Bill
