Heerespringer...Thanks for the ID. According to Franz Kurowski's book on KC Holders of the Fallschirmjaeger...Major Sempert received the KC due to his battalion destroying 120 enemy tanks in the third battle of Cassino. Prior to that Captain Sempert received the German Cross in Gold for his company's part in freeing Mussolini from Gran Sasso.

May13 - FJ Italy - 1 Group of Fallschirmjaegers wearing black fascist "camiccie nere" shirts. I posted simuliar photos back on pages 308 to 314. I believe member Oscar said that may have belonged to FJR2

Hi Will, I can confirm that your photo #2679 is taken near Rome. The FJ are from 2. FJD immediatly after the combats in the city. The shots of the cemetery also are near Rome.

                              Erich Lepkowski

                              Hi Bill,

Just went through some of your old photos in this thread - from February 2010 - and stumbled over a couple of them that show the later RK recipient Erich Lepkowski as a young NCO in May 1941, just before and on the way to Crete. The nos are #1634 (2nd on the right), #1637 (1st left), #1638 (right, facing camera) and # 1641.
As nobody has commented on this I thought , maybe I should.

                              Regards
                              Karl

                                Karl,

Thank you for your ID and comments...it's always nice to put a name to a face on these photos especially when they become highly decorated in later years.
