    Unusual 1941 FJ helmet cover

A friend have found yesterday the following FJ helmet cover in a house here in Normandy near Carentan.
    It's a unusual one.

I would like to have more opinions on it?

    Regards
    Ben

      FJ Helmet cover

      Hi,

Field made with original and rare zeltbahn ... Other items are genuine.

        No, he keeps it.

IMO, it's not from a "tropical" zeltbahn, it's a "little" splinter camouflage.

Why would a zeltbahn have 1941 and size 68 stamped on it ?

Clothes used on zelt are not the same.

Reminds me of some that a reputated US dealer of high quality collectables has or had for sale.
Not what we are used to see for this kind of cover but you never know..

Was this found directly from the homeowner, or was there someone in the middle? In other words, was there a direct chain of custody? Was it really found with those other items, which exhibit some serious poor storage damage? I just want to be truly objective here.

I apologize for being suspicious, but I know of someone here in the US who is buying the rarest camo wire FJ helmets with the story of them being found in homes in the Carentan area. And, they are all complete fakes, but he won't listen to anyone because he has "invested" in the story. I am not saying the find above is related to this same "finder". Just food for thought......

This style of cover has also been found in the draw string variation with the exact markings, to include the 1941 date. And, we know draw string covers were not made in 1941. We also know that splinter camo fabric (to date that is and especially Luftwaffe splinter) uses green "rain" streaks and not brown. These covers also never seem to fit on helmets. We also know the Luftwaffe never used a double sided splinter pattern. If it can't be reversed what would be the point of the extra cost of printing a pattern on both sides?

I am keeping my mind open; I am just reviewing the facts based on other observations of these same covers. To encourage critical thinking.

Well here is my opinion Willi, I would not own it if it were given to me.

                        Hi,

I have a very bad impression with this cover . I don't like the stitching and the material . And it seems to be artificially aged .

                              My opinion ? Hmmm ...well......

If it was found for free, and the finder is keeping it then great. If, however, it is for sale and comes with the "found in a house in Carantan" story, then I would be less happy
