Hi Eric, this is a particularly ugly & crude fake. A dreadful con.
The bowl / shell shape in itself is way off, as are the black rubber shock pads, leather liner and straps. If you read through just some of the very many threads on real m38 helmets posted, the difference is chalk and cheese, and you will see what I mean.

It looks like one from a British collection, where the guy paid $18,000 for each fake years ago. I think he had 5 or 6 of them.....
The write-up said he was collecting for 50 years and selling it for health reasons.
Saving the photos for those who are not familiar with these notorious fakes. I first encountered them at the 1993 Max Show in Baltimore (fresh from Northern Italy) when they were selling for $10,000.Attached FilesWilli
