    His home was in Senftenberg (Neustrelitz). The duration of his leave war until 27.3.1945.

    Senftenberg was declared "Festung" (stronghold) 20.4.1945 and the Russian army occupied

    Senftenberg 21. April 1945.

    May be he was sent home to bring his family to safety.

        Just a question: what was exactly the "Führerpacket"? Was it a sort of special license or only special issues received?

          Also later called a Führergeschenk or gift, it was an a leave package that consisted of a Lebensmittelpaket which comprised of meat, cheese, chocolate and other sundries. It could also contain a Sonderlebensmittelkarte, which was an extra ration card and 10 RM. Sometimes even a bottle of wine!

            The "Führerpaket" was a special gift - a donation in the name of the "Führer". It was a parcel which

            normally contained e. g. a botle of wine or some cake, or sweets, or cigarretes, food or a sardine tin.

            It always depended on the actual stock of foodstuffs available.

                Hi guys,

                I have one fairly similar to Naxos. "Sonderurlaub fur des Verdienste" early April '45. This must have been some serious "Verdienst" he did to get a leave for 14 days so late in the war.
                Nothing is mentioned about this or has he been awarded anything. He was already awarded the EK.1 back in '43.

                What are your thought?

                  Allow me a little correction:

                  It doesn't say "des" (which wouldn't make sense anyway), but "bes." [= "besondere"].

                  So, this was indeed leave for "particular/special merit".

                      Hi Mats,

                      nice entry, he certainly must have done something extraordinary. Where (east, west) was he fighting at the time? By then (1945) most Germans knew all's lost and leave became more important than medals.
                      A two week break from a hopeless cause seems more attractive than a medal.

                        14 April 1945 ended his special leave in Leipzig. 4 days later 18 April 1945 the US Army liberated Leipzig.

                          It just came in so I haven't really researched it yet. The Soldbuch is a zweitschrift and it's from a Leutnant who was a member of 94.ID, 2. /Krankenkraftwagenzug 194, from at least November '42 till the end of the war. He saw a lot of action in Stalingrad and was awarded the KVK2, BWB and the EK1 for this. It's most likely he was flown out of the kessel. As a Stalingrad collector I haven't really looked any further yet.

                          At the April 20, 1945 he was promoted to Oberleutnant which might have something to do with the same action.

                              There have bee three categories of "Bombenschaden" - the abbreviation "Bombensch." means "Bombenschaden" not Bombenbeschädigter

                              Category A - only a few damages (window glasses broken)

                              The damage could have been caused by the bomb attack "Operation Hurrican" which also stroke
                              Duisburg
