      Thanks Ian,

Any guess for why the Sonder Urlaub would have been awarded?

What is sited is the AHM43. Beginning on page 515, they have a complete brake down of all the leaves for the German military. Number 66 deals with Sonderurlaub and "c" is: bei besonderen Notständen (z.B. Gafährdung der bürgerlichen Existenz u. ä.).

Studienurlaub : 3 months in a wehrpass of a Stug lieutenant end 1941... I found only another case here (under) , always a officier and always more or less the same period .... it is rare, right?

                          rank

Regarding Studienurlaub a friend now deceased received this mid-war to complete his doctorate at Heidelberg Uni. He had done pre-war service with KR 6 and served in Africa. He was "Herr Feldwebel Dr. ----" in Normandy with the Pz. Lehr Div. and severely wounded after which he recuperated for the rest of the war in a hospital in Heidelberg. He never was an officer. His uniform and Soldbuch were taken from him in the hospital.

very interesting .... my lieutenant was the son of a university professor ..... it is interesting the final date of all these 3 cases March 15, 1942 .... it was probably a premium to those who had to graduate ....

"Sonderurlaub wegen Tapferkeit for dem Feind"

More than 3 weeks leave for "bravery facing the enemy" given on March 01 1945!

The man was awarded the iron cross first class a few weeks earlier.

This is an awesome addition to the thread! Do you have any more info on if leave was granted for other higher awards of bravery and if so, how long? Also was this very common to get a Sonderurlaub for an award of bravery?
