"Naxos", that is a really nice Soldbuch, very special that it belonged to your father. It's sad to see that so many people throw away items which belonged to their parents, so it's nice to see that you cherish it.
Below is one of my favorite Soldbuch photographs, an Oberfeldwebel of Stukageschwader 3 who was awarded amongst others the Ehrenpokal für Besondere Leistungen im Luftkrieg, Frontflugspange für Kampfflieger in Gold und Eisernes Kreuz I Klasse. On the photograph he is wearing a Bandspange with ribbons for the Kriegsverdienstkreuz II Klasse mit Schwertern and Medaille zur Erinnerung an den 1. Oktober 1938 mit Spange.
With kind regards,
Koen.

Not necessarily my favourite but I have always been fascinated by these photos.
This picture on the left is taken from the driving license of Gefreiter Franz Kumerer. In August 1942 he was a 28 year old Gefreiter serving with Artillerie Regiment 139 of 39 Infanterie Division in Vlissingen.
April 1943 he transferred to the Nachrichten Abteilung and along with his Division was sent to Russia around Charkov and defensive battles on the Dniepr.
November 1943 after being decimated his unit formed Nachrichten Abteilung 310 of Artillerie Division z.b.v. 310 in the Ukraine.
August 1944 his unit was again destroyed with the remnants forming SS Korps Nachrichten Abteilung 112 of the XII SS Armeekorps in Lithuania, later Holland (Arnhem) and Aachen.
The right photo from his Soldbuch was taken after 5.8.1944 when he transferred to the SS. The hardship of war or serious illness shows on his face (nothing is recorded on the hospitalisation pages!). Here he is only 30 years old!!!
Unfortunately he died of wounds sustained 20.11.1944.

Thats indeed a nice set Ian.
I got one like that as well, he looks good in his (early) WH-Führerschein, but on the (1944) soldbuch photo its a differend story!I'm collecting anything related to the towns Castricum and Bakkum during WWII.
Also soldbucher from 116pzdiv. And 1944-1945 eastfront pockets, kampfgruppe and Oder front.
