You are most welcome Erwin. Still struggling to understand how they managed to get 29 POW's back to their own lines if they only had 2 canoes and a rowing boat available. Must have been quite some boat or lots of rowing with several crossings...

Well i really enjoyed your story .

Here a small contribution from me and it is perhaps not directly related to the fightings in Holland but related to Holland 1944. This is a page from the soldbuch from a Dutch Waffen SS volunteer who joined the Westland Regiment in 1940. He went on leave to his homeplace Amsterdam from 16-03 till 10-04-1944. He also received the Wound Badge in Gold in March 1945 as a result from the fightings on the Eastern Front. The leave was permitted by Hauptsturmfuhrer Johann Eidens (thanks Kevin), KIA on 21-03-1945.

Nice one Erwin! Apparently a survivor from the Tscherkassy pocket battle. Most of the Germanic volunteers who survived this battle were send on a short leave to their homelands in March / April 1944. A commemoration service was held in Utrecht for the survivors of the Tscherkassy pocket, and PK-Berichter Gustav Koczor interviewed a number of them. The below link might be of interest to you:

What was his rank and any other decorations besides the Wound Badge in Gold? If I read correctly he was also awarded the Infanterie Sturmabzeichen in Bronze?

Thanks for the interesting link. I have to study the soldbuch further. This soldier ended as a rottenfuhrer and was awarded with the Infantery Sturmabzeichen in Bronze, Winterschlacht in Osten, Kriegsverdienstenkreuz, Verwundeten Abzeichen Schwarz, Verwundeten Abzeichen Silber, Verwundeten Abzeichen in Gold, Eiseren Kreuz II Klasse.
