That probably explain it. The original cross was switched to a fake at one of those handovers.
In case the photo of fake piece is removed i post it here.

Another thing. The RK in the original wartime photo was not there when the photo was taken. Not the cross we see here in the photo posted in this thread. It was added after the photo was taken. Either back then or today.

        - Look close and you see the color difference in the black core. Compare with the Iron Crosses in the photo.
        - There are shadows under the Iron Crosses but none under the RK.
        - Look even closer and you see that the RK is not attached to the ribbon.

Well it was a nice try, but the marks on the pillow don't match, the fold in the RK ribbon doesn't match either.

I'm rather surprised that a pillow from the funeral would still have most of the medals on it ... even 60 years+ after the fact.

Here is another observation. The EK2 ribbon is clearly folded differently between the set in the wartime photo and the set presented today.

My last comment on this fraud will be on the damaged frame. While the frame has severe damage, the core is pristine apart from the rust. I find the damage unatural even for a plane crash. How can large chunks be knocked away from the frame without damage the core? How can the upper corners be that distorted without coresponding damage to the lower side of the cross, or stretching the eyelet?

In the end all that is a pointless discussion. The cross is a fake after all.

Not pointless- It goes to show what lengths fakers will go to in an effort to rip us off. Imagine this pillow on a table with the photo at a show. Chances are someone would fall for it eventually.

One of the burial photo's shows an EK1 and this one does not?

                              That's one ugly wehrpass...

Don't spot only the cushion and the crosses what about the wearer face, uniform and armband ?
He's not the same guy when the cushion is different and the light shadow is quite curious
Pics 1 and 40 seem to be some photoshop reenacting
