So I'm not just paranoid after all. Whew, what a relief.

Don, paranoia? No, just a healthy dose of 'questioning'.....

That however, begs the question of 'why' the post and the alluded context
      Regards,
      Dave

Its the back of the cross that has the chunk out of the ribbing not the front, that is why it does not show the same damage....

...and not because they are NOT the same cross?

Look again there is a chunk of beading out of the front side too.

                -

IMO this is a set up. Like von Schulenburg´s KC in Previtera´s book.

He has removed the picture of the front side. I smell a rat. I saved the original posting and will post it when I get home from work tonight.

This cushion comes with personal belongings such as his soldbook, (copy) award docs, 3 photo albums (meine Dienstzeit) and so on...Forman sold it in 1984 and since then it changed a few times....

The story tells that he died in the plane with his KC (2 comrades survived). His ME -110 was hit by a shot down Lancaster and died in Eindhoven (Holland).
The ribbon was soaked of blood as they found him, so comrades changed the ribbon (narrower than the RK type) at the funeral...

It is not even the same cushion as the original photo. It is too sqaure compared with the more rectangular shaped cushion in the B&W photo..

                            Hello,

To know a little bit more about Frank, you can go here:

                            http://www.luftwaffe39-45.historia.nom.br/ase/frank_rudolf.htm

It is in Portuguese but you won******180;t have problems if you use an on-line translator. Briefly, I can tell you this:

Rudolf Frank was born on 19.08.1920 and was assigned to the 2nd Staffel of the Nachtjagdgeschwader 3 (2./NJG 3) from the beginning of 1941 on. He was awarded with the Ehrenpokal on 09.08.1943, DKiG on 17.10.1943, RK on 06.04.1944 (after 42 night victories).

He was killed when his plane (Messerschmitt Bf110G-4 - Werkenummer 720074 - "D5+CL") was hit by the debris of a Lancaster bomber that he had shoot down during the night of 26-27.04.1944. He was awarded posthumously with the Oakleaves (531.) on 20.04.1944 and promoted to Leutnant.

His final tally was 45 night victories during 183 combat sorties.

                            Hope it helps.

                            Douglas.

                              Wasn't the ME -110 a two seater?

Not when it was used as a night-fighter in the last stages of war. By then the aircrew was increased to three: pilot, radio/radar operator and rear gunner.
