      Here is a great shot of him in a set of tiger stipes, although in B+W as it is the only film that they used. He is recently wounded with 13 frags in his cheek, right thigh, right shoulder and right side. He was wounded during this same invasion. Notice the AP on his helmet.
      He told me the only identifiers they wore on their fatiques was their name above the pockets and sometimes the word Bao-Chi Viet for press.

        He is a very interesting individual and still has some tigers that he wore and the flack jacket in the picture, as well as hundreds of pics. Here is a shot he took of an ARVN soldier fleeing Laos on a huey during operation Lam Son 719. He actually won the Ap managing editors photographic award in 1971 for it!
        He also has a NVA diary that he picked up which he might perhaps want translated later on.

            I wouldn't have taken chances if I had seen it on ebay, but I would have been wrong!
            I had never heard of OD color helmets with painted ranks in the ARVN; does anybody have pics of this kind of helmets being worn?

                quick question, white name tapes on ARVN shirts, were they worn in the field also our only for parade or garrison duty, do we have any light on this??

                  Alex,

                  here is one of my favourite colour photos of an ARVN during the late 1960's during Tet.
                  Note the shirt and trousers are actually camo.

                    Here is another.

                    This time IV Corps troops in 1970.

                    I especially like the leather 2 cell magazine pouch being worn with the ARVN with the camera around his neck.

                      The same group from a different angle.

                      Note again the camo shirt and trousers.

                        Patrick,
                        Neat photos. That pistol rig looks like a captured NVA Chicom Tokarov in nice condition!
                        Here is another photo of the ambush site where the correspondent picked up the helmet outside of Quang Tri City. He labeled the pic {death highway}

                          Here is the set of tigers that I picked up from him. The faded blood soaked pants are the same ones he is wearing in the picture of him wounded.

                              does the shirt have a tailor label inside the neck area?
