Michael - Good guess but no, it's been retrofitted and is still sailing today. Anyone know where? Kevin

        Germany.

          Okay,

I had the wrong Wilhelm Pieck.

The GST Training Ship, which was a large sailing ship, after re-unification was overhauled and refitted, and then renamed "Greif". She still sails in Merry Ol' Germany.

              Hi gentlemen,
I digg out this old thread for showing you anintresting ARTE.TV-docus.

It´s a really good documentation about the cold war on the G.D.R.-ground.

                Dirk,

thank you for posting this documentary. Having served in 40th Armor, Berlin Brigade, it certainly brought back a lot of memories. I'm certain Kevin, who also served there, will agree.

The thing for me that is so hard to define, is how and why my time in Berlin between 78 and 82, despite the austere political situation, were for me the absolute most memorable, and arguably the best, four years of my life. Those four years defined who and what I am today. Perhaps in and of itself, a chilling testimony to the Cold War.

                Thanks Dirk.
