too easy for you, my friend. You´re the only one who answered...

Here in Germany is the question: Do you know Dean Reed? a test, if one comes from East or West... Western Germans normally don´t know him...

    So it´s your turn again...

How popular was Dean Reed with the East Gremans?
Somebody, after all, had to make a start. What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just don't dare express themselves as we did. Quote - Sophie Scholl - White Rose resistance group

        Ralph,
did you followed this link? http://www.deanreed.de/deutsch/index.html
        (switchable to English)
Than you got a little impression of his popularity. He was a really exotic guy: An American who came voluntarily to the DDR!
Yes, he was very very popular. Always a with pleasure seen guest on every arrangement. It fitted very well in the policy of this time and was a great example of ' other America ' (from view of the socialist states, if you know what I mean ...).
Unfortunally I never saw him live on stage or in a discussion...

On "youtube" were some clips of him.

Hey Dirk - Thanks much for the reply. I did see the link, I just wanted to read a follow up post from you or another forum member who lived during the time about his popularity.

                Hi all,
against the boring time during Christmas:

                Who was I:

I was since 1931 a member of the NSDAP and since 1932 of the SS. Than by the Legion Condor and later in Luftwaffe Major and Geschwaderkommodore.

After 1945 in the GDR: I was one of the founded members of the Bundes Deutscher Offiziere and the President of the ADMV.
In 1979 I got the Vaterländischen Verdienstorden in Gold.

(with a little help from another Forum...)

Tag der Volksmarine was celebrated since 1960 every 3rd of November in the entire Baltic district of Rostock.
Tag der Volkspolizei was a memorial day celebrated in the DDR since 1946 on every 1 July with parades.

It's been a few months so I thought it might be fun to revive the Trivia thread. Here is an easy one to start off:

What happened to the GST Training Ship "Wilhelm Pieck" after the unification of Germany?
