Nice hat. The cap badge matches the date of 1966. Early cap badge with the bottom cut off so the leather chin strap would lay flat were also used by higher ranking police officials with the silve cap cords. At a later date a complete police star was adopted and worn higher on the cap band which looked much better wehn the silver cap cords were worn.

This style is a later blue variant (up to 1977) for the Niedersachsen Police. The very early ones been made out of very rough cloth. A complete star came with the new (now old ) green/bambus uniforms.

Wow... that BGS general's hat went for far more than I would have predicted. I would have guessed EUR 250 tops. But it beat that by a wide margin!

Here is another that often gets re-badged (and sometimes re-built) to be a TR Gendarmerie visor. Anyone know what state/city this one represents?:

TR Gendarmerie isn't that far you might think. As written in my profile i'm from Germany, exactly from Rhineland-Palatine (Rheinland-Pfalz). In the State of Rhineland-Palatine, the government decided at the beginning of the 1950s to form a special kind of traffic police, to support the local police units on the motorways. You have to know that usual police units in the early 50s in Germany were most time equipped with a Volkswagen Kaefer.

So this special unit got the name "Motorisierte Gendarmerie" (or short Mot. Gendarmerie) like in the pre-war era. For accomplishing their mission they got equipped with e.g. Mercedes-Benz 180 and 220 or Ford Taunus. To separate this traffic patrol from other police units, their cars were painted white with black "POLIZEI" lettering on the hood and trunk. To differentiate the Mot. Gendarmerie officers from the usual ones, they got black trousers instead of the dark green ones, and their Visors and epaulettes were charakterized with orange instead of the green pipings. The black trousers also had an orange piping.

Maybe I can post some pictures of this unit later... By the way I have to say: Respect for this Visor! Even in Germany Mot. Gendarmerie clothing is really rare.

Very useful information about the Rhine-Pfalz "Motorisierte Gendarmerie". Little is know about by North American collectors Mot. Gendarmerie by North American collectors. Looking forward to your pictures.

Thanks for the information on the R-P Motorized Gendarmerie. I have an orange piped Meister rank R-P Gendarmerie uniform as you describe. It has an R-P Gendarmerie shoulder patch in addition to the orange piping. I did not realize it was specifically a Motorized Gendarmerie uniform.
