    Identifying BRD Polizei Visors 1946-1974

    BRD Collectors:

Many TR collectors are fooled by re-badged BRD visors, such as the example below. (Most often, unscrupulous sellers rip out the plastic sweatshield.)

Speaking for myself, I know I am weak in identifying which color pattern (ie, band color and piping color) go with which state. Gordon suggested I start a reference for these pre-1975 visors (which, as I understand it, is when they dropped the chincords--correct me if I am wrong).

Can anyone id the state for this hat?:

    stoenmint,

This looks like an early polizei cap to me. Chin straps were never dropped but there were countless different designs used by the polizei of different states. I am not familiar with this maker. I'll post pictures of a similar visor tomorrow once the light is better.

    Regards,

    Gordon

ps-are there any airvents in this cap?

      Gordon--

The maker is Friedrich Schweitzer (a legit TR maker that went by the trade name "Helvetia")--pics do not show air vents. But the hat is definately postwar. See this thread:

Here is another that often gets re-badged (and sometimes re-built) to be a TR Gendarmerie visor. Anyone know what state/city this one represents?:

          stonemint,

Sorry, I guess that I was not clear in my earlier post. When I said it looked like"an early polizei cap" I meant early post was polizei.
The picture of the second cap you posted is very interesting. I've never seen that colour of cap with that colour of piping. No idea who would have worn it.

          Regards,

          Gordon

Here is another common re-badging. This is a postwar BRD BGS General's visor (which I would have to believe is quite rare in its own right), rebadged to become a WH Genl visor:

This is for the Berlin Police, but I do not know for what part. In any event, the insignia gets removed, and they become LW Officer visors:

Same thing happen with Wasserschutzpolizei visors--they become TR Kriegsmarine visors.

I believe this is for Hannover?:

                          Stonemint,

Thanks for the updates on BRD visors converted to TR ones. The Berlin visor is for the PP Bln and these are commonly marked so under the sweat band. Normal Berlin police force. The one you pictured is a very rare bird with the embroidered cap badges. I've been looking for one of those for years! It is a real shame to see that post war Forestry cap converted into something else. They are as rare as the proverbial hens teeth.

Here are the pictures of the hat I said that I would post yesterday. This one would also make an excellent candidate for conversion to a TR cap but not know that it is in my collection.

                          Regards,
