    stonemint,

A question. For the majority of my collecting career it was an excepted fact that any German hat with air holes was post war and those without were war time. From what I see on different forums now this no longer seems to be accepted fact. Hats without air holes, with one air hole and with two air holes are all considered authentic wartime manufacture and issue. What are your thoughts on this?

    Regards,

    Gordon

Thanks for the updates on BRD visors converted to TR ones. The Berlin visor is for the PP Bln and these are commonly marked so under the sweat band. Normal Berlin police force. The one you pictured is a very rare bird with the embroidered cap badges. I've been looking for one of those for years! It is a real shame to see that post war Forestry cap converted into something else. They are as rare as the proverbial hens teeth.

Here are the pictures of the hat I said that I would post yesterday. This one would also make an excellent candidate for conversion to a TR cap but not know that it is in my collection.

Gordon, you should send me a wish list. I sold 2 of them 2 month ago.

        Nico,

I can not afford my wish list. To keep it short, just like you, almost anything Berlin in particulr, Berlin polizei and especially items marked PP Bln (GB) with or without the GB.

        Gordon

          Gordon--

The "rule" applies to SS (post-RZM), WH, LW & KM. (you will see it broken every now and then, but some of the vents where, imo, added by the particular wearer). This regulation is what caused companies such as Erel and HPC to be creative and hide their venting system in either the cockade or wreath.

Grommets were common to visors during the early era (32-34), but the RZM regs eliminated them.

TR police NCO visors commonly have grommets, but usually they are the large screen type as seen on the Shakos. You will also see it in the "lesser" visors, ie, NSKOV, DAF fest; Soldatenbund, Kyffhauserbund, Reichskriegerbund, etc--most of these are mass-produced lesser-quality hats for EM/NCO equivalent ranks.

Off the top of my head, I cannot think of any private-purchase Officer-quality visors that had them from the late 1930s to the end of the war.

The only political visors that had them were the Ordensburgen Form 4 visors found at Vogelsang at the end of the war.

          Good question

            stonemint,

Thanks for the comments. Makes me feel more confortable now with my own observations.

              question;
the forestry visor from post 7.
the patent abbreviation DBP,has that been scraped to become DRP?
so the opened up that B,from the bottom.
I wonder because it is not that clearly visible.
              regards,
              kees

Good eye. It does say "DRP". However, Pekuro continued to use "DRP" until the early 1950's to protect their patent. The sweatbands that have "PEKURO" punched into the forehead are postwar.

Here is an example of a Pekuro Bundesbahn visor worn between 1952-54 with "DRP":

As far as I can tell, only Pekuro.

Baden-Württemberg circa 1970. Can anyone explain why this one is silver-piped compared to Gordon's post #13?:

                              Isn't post # 28 a repeat of #11?

                              The answer is "Officer".

Thanks for the distinction on the silver piping being for and officer--I am stuck in a TR mindset, where only Truppenfarbe was used up to the rank of general.

Speaking of General ranks, this is some sort of postwar BRD visor re-badged as TR:
