stonemint,
Re gold piping on BGS Generals visor caps, not totally true. In this case it is obvious that he is not wearing gold piping. I have two BGS Generals visor caps, with both styles of cap badge, that have gold piping on the crown and above and below the cap band. In this picture the early cap badge is worn so perhaps there was a change in regulations at some point during the period that this type of cap badge was in wear. Now to find the regulations that cover this change!

Gordon

Based on some pics I have, I'd say that the earlier hats did not have gold piping. This would be consistent with the photo Stonemint just posted (which is reversed left right, which always bugs me!). Gordon, are your hats 1971-1975 or post 1975?
I have no idea what the black band cap with orange piping is.

Steve,
After much searching on the net, and through my own files, yesterday I have not been able to come up with any substantiation for BGS general officers wearing gold piping on their hats. Unfortunately, just because I have two BGS hats that appear to be authentic and have gold piping that doesn't mean it was worn. The best way for a resolution of this question is to email the BGS and hope for an answer. They have responded to my queeries in the past so lets hope that they do so again this time.
The only dated fotos of BGS generals I have found have been early ones. To make you feel better, here is a picture of Inspekteur des BGS Alfred Samlowski (1961-1963) facing the correct direction. The black and white one was dated the same day. The photos are from the Bundesarchives and are dated 27 May, 1961.

Gordon

Negele
Negele is a wartime manufacturer. I have a Fire-Police M-43 so marked.

Speaking of General ranks, this is some sort of postwar BRD visor re-badged as TR:

Stonemint,
The blue cap is for Customs and probably worn by members of the
Küstenwache des Bundes (German Federal Coast Guard). The
Küstenwache des Bundes is an organization formed of several Federal Departments of which Customs is just one. They have a number of responsibilities including customs enforcement at sea.
The second cap is a summer BGS See cap. It could be worn by a member of the Küstenwache des Bundes or a member of the BGS See on duties not connected to the Küstenwache des Bundes.
Members of each Federal Department involved in the Küstenwache des Bundes wear their own services uniforms.
Regards,
Gordon
