    Mmmm

I watched FURY for the first time last night and I thought it was a totally cringeworthy film that did not do the US Army or its tank crews justice.

Saving private Ryan brought home the pure horror and bravery off the Americans at Omaha Beach and gave any young man today an insight into what it was like. Spielberg really does his research.

The Red Army are well known for the looting and raping as they entered Germany. Just read the book " Berlin the last 5 days" and "A woman in Berlin" to understand what went on.

To talk about the Red Army and you see Brad Pitt telling the young guy that if he doesn't take the young German through the room he will. Then they all come in drunk and one wearing a stupid hat.

I always thought the Behaviour of the British and Americans was different. My own Grandad is ex tank crew and he never said anything like this. He even said looting was a serious offence.

If this was a great film and an accurate portrayal off US Army tank crews during WW2 then I will accept I got my facts wrong. I am surprised veterans would agree with this.

Brad Pitt ruined the film and the ending was a complete let down.

I never expected much of a response as I do not believe this film represented the American fighting man.
For a Sgt to tell one off his men that if he doesn't take a young woman through the room he would and then the rest off the crew enter the room abusing the women and acting like assholes. To then have them boast off a sexual "line up" with the local civilian women. You will find prostitutes everywhere but they portray German civilian woman as willing to have sex with the soldiers the second they arrive. I have a British Grandad who was in the tank corps and he married my German Gran in 1947. They divorced in the 1950's and remarried. My British Grandad says that looting was a serious offence and that both the British and American soldiers behaved very well with the civilian population with only a few isolated incidents. Brad Pitt shooting a captured German soldier in cold blood in front off everyone would have landed him in deep ****. English women who I have spoken to about the Americans during WW2 said they were very respectful and complete gentlemen. My German grandad was captured in France wearing American boots and apart from getting slapped around he and others were treated well. The victor writes the history books but this is disrespectful to German women and to American veterans both living and dead. How the hell this film got released I do not know. The Americans are known for their bravery in battle in all wars but in my eyes they have been portrayed on a par with the Red Army with their behaviour in the film. The film shows it all. Arrogant attitudes, abuse off women, executing prisoners, reference to sex with women, looting, drunkeness and no decipline expected off a respected Army. I would have been embarrassed if that represented a WW2 British Tank Crew in a film.
It's a terrible dire film. Shocking to watch and I could not see how any American could watch this with pride. I now hate Brad Pitt after watching this.

Please tell me if I have got it all wrong and this is how it was. I feel sorry for any veterans watching Fury.

I do not believe that a soldier could be executed in the field with no one intervening or a soldier telling another to have sex with a woman or he would if she wanted to or not.

What an embarassing film I wished I never watched.

You are right. This film has everything to do with the degenerates in Hollywood and nothing to do with the American fighting man. The scene with the woman has more to do with the Hollywood casting couch than the WW2 tanker. The whole movie truly sucked.

                Yes

Yes! I know its a Hollywood film but so was Saving Private Ryan and a film like that reinforces your respect and honour off the veterans involved in these campaigns. It's bad taste and not the type off thing you want young American people to see. The type of conduct and behaviour it shows the American fighting man in battle represents the "minority" amounts the soldiers. It may be a Hollywood film but they go to the trouble off creating realistic battle scenes and off uniforms and equipment yet show the veterans like non disciplined bandits which was never the case with the British and Americans in ANY conflict and that type off behaviour would be dealt with severely. You do not make a film and go to such great effort to recreate things yet alter history portraying your veterans as bandits on a par with the behaviour dished out by the Red Army.

Ok Woogar..... Would you say that the film made the Tank Crew proud and victorious? Honourable and brave? Respectful and civilised ? Because if it doesn't then Hollywood drama, fiction or whatever it should not have been released because I find it shocking. Watching "cross of iron" "inglorious Bastards" or the British "Dads Army" you know to take it with a pinch of salt as a film with humour. Fury was a serious film that was to portray a tank crew in the closing stages off WW2. If I have god things wrong, which I do, then could the historian please chime in and tell me this is really how it happened and I have got my facts wrong on the American fighting man and fury represents him perfectly with Saving Private Ryan being a Hollywood misleading movie.

I always find, with no disrespect, that People from Norway have a different view off how Britain,America and Russia saved Europe. Britains contribution was very small but substantial compared to the size of our country. It is well documented about Russian brutality and America and Britain may have behaved totally differently had we been invaded and had the losses the Russians had during the war. It's not a defence but I can understand why they were so pissed off when they entered Germany and in the first year or so.

They should not make a serious film discrediting our veterans. Any American veteran watching fury would not agree with the conduct of the tank crew. Shooting prisoners and committing war crimes in the field. It does not represent history. Show it to an American veteran, look him in the eye and ask him was this how you acted in battle.....

                  Mmmm

As for the women in Germany......

My Grandad, who was in the Tank Corp, told me the story about German women having sex for a bar off chocolate. He said that it started as a full bar then you would negotiate to half a bar the two pieces then one piece.... He found that funny. That was in Germany after the fighting was over. This went on but there was a strict rule about fraternising with the enemy. I do believed that happened but I do not believe enroute into Germany they stopped to loot and have sex with women with absolutely no discipline.
I have spoke to Germans who encountered American soldiers and they said they behaved very well as anyone would expect.

I find the film incorporates facts and twists the truth. You make a film either serious with a touch off dramatisation but don't make it serious with complete BS.

                    Mmmm

I do not expect many Americans defending this film because in doing so you are only discrediting your veterans either living or dead. It's one film I really regret watching. Totally cringeworthy. A complete Hollywood disaster .

Ok fair enough. Made up Hollywood fantasy like platoon and Saving Private Ryan.

I think we would be naive to think that raping and pillaging did not occur on all sides to some extent in the war, maybe more so towards the end. But to glorify it somewhat in this film just adds to its weaknesses. The film is a pure fantasy, I believe the same guy was involved in the screenplay in Fury as was in U-571, he must be deluded and play far too many computer games !

I think Fury should be forgotten and put in the trash can as they say in the states.

If you want to watch an excellent film, watch Brad Pitts wife'e attempt, top class in my opinion

I refused to pay to watch it so far and it's coming up on the free movie channel this month and I'll watch it. What's with Pitt and other actors wanting war movie roles again and again? Yuk!

I suppose you see the conduct of these soldiers as normal everyday behaviour..... Not what other countries are used to. Think about that one my friend. I was purely making comments on a film and I am sure most Americans see my point unless they are from countries that have never given that kind off sacrifice for others or from countries were rape, murder and violence are the everyday norm as portrayed in this film.
