this is the best post in this thread - sums it up all perfectly. I follow up this thread from the start and completely agree.. never seen so many absolutely different insights on the absolutely same thing.
I know I will love the movie anyway only because there are ww2 uniforms

I went to the film thinking I would hate the acting part and enjoy the battle stuff, but it turned out to be the opposite. The acting (in the non battle scenes) was pretty good, anything to do with the Germans and battle was really, really bad. if you like fantasies then this movie is for you.
I guess SS troops could only make frontal assaults on a broke down Sherman and carried no efficient anti tank weapons or practiced no tactics on that either.
If the final battle scene had lasted 2 minutes it may have been very slightly believable, but as is, it went on for hours and hours, get real.
I would rate it on the same level as War Horse when it comes to reality....like a 2.3 on scale of 10.

I keep hearing about one tank crew taking on 200 crack SS !

About 30 SS were actually killed before they were overwhelmed

Also by late 1944 SS Batallions were only a shadow of their former selves!

However yes it was still a wee bit OTT but top entertainment !

The movie was top class, only improvement would have been a few SS zombies and a flight from the hidden Nazi's on the moon. Then it would have catered for every one. J

"I keep hearing about one tank crew taking on 200 crack SS" !
Yeah a broke down immobile tank that the SS (obvious reenactors for the most part) could only attack head on. Nice of them to do so. I guess they carried no smoke grenades, anti tank weapons or brought any experienced officers along with them?

"About 30 SS were actually killed before they were overwhelmed"
                30!
Maybe 300 ! It was a fantasy and as long as viewed as that , then it was entertaining, I guess. Much of the battle scenes were excruciatingly painful to endure though.
Tanks only had a top speed of 3 mph in WW2 I guess and stayed very ,very close together in battle, especially when crossing open ground. YAY!

......Excellent entertainment. I never let the critics decide!
One question for all you movie goers.

Did anyone recognize the prisoner dressed in dot camo that was drug through the tank bivouac ? You remember...the helmetless one with the black eye. Hint: Not as an actor.

Question for those who worked on the film: Were the PzKpfw IV and the Panther in the opening sequence original or mock-ups?

                          Thanks,
