    Fury

Fury was simply an average war film laced with some good effects and some graphic realism on the grit of conflict. The acting was sadly very wooden and the script telltale...(US soldiers interacting with females but nevertheless showing their human side in the tide of war..(please...), SS soldiers being simplisticly portrayed in interpretation., and overly condensed battle sequences (the scene where the Shermans are taking on German PAK in a field is horribly done..with soldiers firing in such close pan in the film shot giving one no sense of the scope of that engagement...) The film certainly is no Private Ryan, Das Boat or Der Untergang. Sadly, the Tiger scene was anti climatic, and I personally view the final battle sequence as very unrealistic but to each their own as to their opinion on that matter..

I don't feel I wasted my time seeing the film as there were some good moments and frankly I appreciate seeing Hollywood make a movie that is not about superheroes or zombies, but I do not hold the movie as an icon of cinematography or atmospheric

I am still awaiting some German director to tackle Guy Sajer's The Forgotten Soldier, but believe the candor and matter of fact view of the book's narration to easily intimidate anyone to embrace the project.

Just come back from seeing the movie,

I thought it was terrific until that last battle scene, but I was expecting some bull**** in there and overall a really good movie.

        *Possible Spoilers*

I've seen the movie, and as a Combat Veteran, it was a very intense movie to watch. The gore was pretty accurate in my opinion. Definitely some difficult scenes to watch due to the gore, but I think people need to see it. But it was still lacking a lot unfortunately. Really sad to read in this thread that correct movements were done by the W-SS guys, but it wasn't used in the film. This film really could have been a lot more, and was an excellent opportunity missed, as usual. I thought the last scene was extremely inaccurate and just another movie scene that shows the Germans as fumbling idiots who can't shoot the side of a barn. I wasn't expecting a documentary, but the last act kind of ruins it for me, however I try to look past it...
My question however is, how accurate do y'all think the 1. scene where German girls are captured coming out of the building with W-SS camo on and 2. the scene that shows German boys and girls hanging from lamp posts?

I've noticed in the Armor community, it's been real popular. I've seen lots of "Best job I ever had" photos on facebook showing crewman next to their beast since the movie came out. Us Tankers really don't have too many movies, "The Beast", "Battle of the Bulge", "Kelly's Heroes". Out of all those, I consider "Fury" probably the best even with the terrible last act, however "The Beast" will always have a special place in my heart.

Not seen it either but I'd tend to think that showing SS troopers in a good light would be seen as politically incorrect.

I think one of the areas the film scores well is in showing that there was good and bad on both sides and war can bring out the best and worst in people.

Yes. And if that message gets across to the general public, via a Hollywood movie...

                Good!

Just sawit, great jobs those involved here. It's a movie.I was entertained. Most realistic unis and equipment I have seen in a WW2 movie.

I just kept it simple and enjoyed it .Like I said it's a movie and some of the things people didn't like they did because it is a movie and was for action entertainment I'm sure.

I also thoght it was a more realistic portrayal of the U.S men ,not your stereotypical baseball, apple pie 1940's ah shucks approach.

                    *SPOILER ALERT*

I noticed what others have said about what they feel are the movie's flaws and shortcomings. As a flight gear collector I immediately recognized Brad Pitt's goggles as postwar Russian examples (readily available of 80s vintage, I've seen them sell for $20 on eBay; WW2 originals are incredibly rare), and that was somewhat irksome throughout the entire movie, given their attention to minute details in other areas. I wish they would have just stuck with US B-8 goggles, like those worn by Shia LeBoeuf and The New Guy. As for the story, I give it 6 stars out of 10. I thought Jon Bernthal's character smacked of an inbred country hick with a mumbling Southern drawl; he could have toned it way down and come across as more professional. The dialog among the guys while in the tank was what I liked best. The tank vs SS troops at the end was very disappointing and right out of a Sgt. Rock comic book. Within five minutes of opening fire on them, it went from daylight to nighttime. Battle hardened SS troops were falling like flies at the incessant, accurate American firepower. Brad Pitt took three hits from a sniper but it took two grenades to silence him. The only thing missing was him clutching his chest screeching "They got meeeeeee. . ." While the crew was buttoned up in the tank, it seemed as if nothing was going outside despite a plethora of Panzerfausts. This scene should really have taken about 15 minutes with a tenth of the body count. Yes it is "just a movie" but with so much commitment to accuracy I think venting some disappointment is understandable. It had a lot more potential and I found a lot more wanting, but I'll end here as I think I made my point.

Interesting mention of Bernthal's character. Prior to WWII the US Army was made up of a disproportionate number of men from Southern states. Most were from poor rural farming, or low wage blue collar families. The Depression drove many to enlist and they made damn fine Soldiers who made up a large part of the officer and SNCO/NCO cadre going into WWII. Hollywood though continues to belittle and typecast the WWII service of such men into little more than stereotypes. Nowhere do you get anyone in any movie like the real life soldiers Sgt Major Paul Huff, or Sgt. James McNice.

                        Edward,

Please understand that I felt Bernthal's character portrayal was way over the top, like "Deliverance" over the top. He could have toned it down a bit in my opinion.

So you don't think there are people like that around ? (not that I would want to hang around him)
I didn't think it way over the top at all.

Really to pick on a pair of goggles as a bad aspect of the movie, I think some of you guys are way over the top as to what to expect.
The movie was probably the best ww2 movie made yet, yes that last scene was rubbish but this is hollywood and do you think Brad Pit and his crew are going to go down so easy, a vast majority of people that see this movie don't care how good the Germans look.
I sure would have liked a more realistic ending and I think they could have done better.
The acting and cinematography, special effects and such were superb.

Not entertained in the least bit!

Certainly wished I had not bothered to go and see this (nearly fell asleep twice), like a 60s war movie bought up to date with better vehicles, uniforms and filming, and as to the end battle where all those german soldiers could not knock out one disabled tank. Good grief! How about a full on frontal attack against a dug in Tiger? I went with 3 other people all non miliaria war fans and I don't they were that impressed with the film! The trailer for the film about the breaking of the Enigma code looke a better bet. Best war production ever made-Band of Brothers and Pacific, end of! Chalk this one up along with Red Tails.
