        .

Well This thread was made years before you joined this forum.

And why would anyone add a movie where the Germans clearly look, talk and act like americans

last, there can only be named 10 movies which will leave your "classics" out.

Close to 3 out of 4 in the 1042 members who voted, agree with the movies listed... Thats about close to 750 members...

Maybe you should see if you can create a thread with such much succes as this...

        If not then zip it...

        Kind regards
        Jens

It's got to be Patton. George C. Scott was great in this film.
The Lost Battalion (Rick Schroeder) is another and We Were Soldiers (Mel Gibson ans Sam Elliot) 3 of my favorite films.

                brilliant actor portrayals

Some great choices here. There are two movies that I recommend based on the actors' portrayal.
DOWNFALL, with Bruno Ganz playing the role of Hitler. I don't think any other actor could ever capture the Fuhrers last days like Mr. Ganz. Hitler's fits of rage, dilusions, and ultimate despair were so well played, you felt that you were watching Hitler himself.
THE DESERT FOX, James Mason was not only a supurb actor in this film, he had a uncanny resemblance to Rommel as well.
I highly recommend you buy/rent these movies, you won't be disappointed.

For those who miss some of the great WWII movies made, since this thread was initiated by me almost 6 1/2 years ago, Curt have now made an addendum.
Heres its possible to vote on old and new WWII movies.

                    Well done Curt

I know these arent on the list and are kinda modern movies......but has anyone seen "The Pianist" w/ Adrien Brody?? and I cant believe no1s mentioned "Band of Brothers" movie series. I know people make fun of the movies where the Germans speak english.....but I think it beats subtitles in some films. Another good Vietnam movie is "Hamburger Hill". Its too bad that Hollywood hasnt come out with another WW2 film recently. other than "the pacific" which was alright. You gotta love the classics though since the Hollywood style movies are usually "pushing it"

3.....the star...Russian recon unit behind the lines.

                            film

Recently got a copy of Conspiracy, all about the Wansee Conference.

Not really a war film I guess, but anytime you get a room full of Nazis together to discuss "policy" it might as well qualify.

Superb film though, one that will definately leave a lasting impression.

Without pushing our american friends, I never understand why The Cross of Iron , was/is so popular in the US.

I dont like the whole setup, and most of the troops includning James Coburn doesnt look like german infantry at all.
The haircuts alone are a joke, let alone monoloques.

Im glad that recent movies got it better.

A lot of really great movies have been mentioned.
                                For me:
The Wind and the Lion...perhaps a bit jingiost for some but a great story line
The Blue Max....beautiful flying scenes. Peppard actually did much of his own flying
Zulu.....makes you proud to be British even if you're not
Glory..love the music and the Haarlem Boys' Choir
12 O'clock High..first thing they did in our senior command course was show it
Darn near any Aussie made war flick... proud histories well told
                                Waterloo..just a great old film
                                Gladiator...just the opening battle

                                And my favorite movie line:

"Is there nothing in your life worth losing everything for?"

                                Mike
