I have a question to you and the other 22,29% of people who votes for Saving Privat Ryan:

You are interested in the german army and german military, but you like a film, which shows the most terrible and most wrong picture of german soldiers i have ever seen. I know the equipment is relistic, but the whole rest is absolutly ... in German we say "Müll".
That includes the story (a small group of US-Soldiers against a huge German superior strength..... a real relistic picture of the fights in the normandy
The german soldiers are all negativ and looks like KZ-Prisoners. No german soldiers in WW2 had a skin, you can see this in many pictures.
I can understand the intention of Steven Spielberg and i know he hates Germany, perhaps it is his right as a jew.
This is what i dont understand.

I didn't like Saving Private Ryan as well, i liked a lot of the shots, but it was to "Hollywood" if you ask me. They lost controll of reality and i like movies which shows reality (or as close to).

I liked Band of Brothers a lot for example. But also Der Untergang was a very good movie which i believe was quite realistic as far as i know the storie.

I like Jakob the liar too by the way and Escape from Sobibor.

      Ow, and Memphis Belle offcourse!

Here are a couple of my favorites that did not get much air time:

        The Lighthorsemen
        The Beast
        Memphis Belle

and I have to also put a vote in for Blackhawk Down

Battle of Britain is a classic, 90% real aircraft, (practically the whole spanish airforce) no CG thank god and great music.

That themesong and the luftwaffe no.2 general inspecting the heinkels in the opening credits is the highlight for me.

I totally agree. They make the German's seem like drones, imo.

There are 3 movies I always enjoy when I watch them.

Soldier of Orange with Rutger Hauer. This is a film from the Dutch point of view. Excellent.

The Assault. Again, another interesting take on occupied territory with emphasis on the collaborator aspect.

Finally, a film all too little seen with a real documentry feel to it. The Revenge of Private Pooley. This details the massacre of the Norfolk regiment at the hands of the SS. Excellent period feel to it. Unfortunately, it is unavailable on tape or DVD.

I suggest you seek these out. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
