I thought the film was intelligently written and filled with well conceived ideas. There are some classic "Tarantino" moments sewn throughout its duration.

Unfortunately, Tarantino's obsession with lengthy dialogue killed much of the scene tension that he had worked so hard to set up. These carefully crafted moments of genuine suspense became extended passages of boredom.

It's a Tarantino thing, dont' expect to see a war movie... it's only a bloody thing with no connection with reality. Did anybody notice the newspaper about the "Hugo Stiglizt" story and the "gestapo" officers he "killed" that appear in the photographs? Among others fighter ace Günther Lützow and Major-General Erich Bärenfänger... What a sad film...

This flim is obviously a piss take. I'm about half an hour into it and I'm glad i read this thread and many reviews before i saw it. What has pissed me off the most is the whole Wehrmacht=Nazi bollcks once again that one expects from PC buddhas like Hanks. TBH it feels more like Natural Born Killers in WW2 than anything else

The film is enjoyable if you take it as its meant to be, ie one massive piss take, if not another gutter trash Tarantino film.

The first time I watched this, I hated it. I forward wound segments that I found some of the worst.

Some of the blokes at work who have little knowledge of the War thought it was good in a comic book way. They mentioned bits that were intresting I retrospectively realised, mainly the SS colonel mentioned throughout this topic.

I watched it again and started to enjoy it by not taking it seriously.

I still feel guilty for enjoying it, for me it kind of cheapens the dead.

The War was real enough, why fantasise about it? I then thought of The Dirty Dozen, The Eagle Has Landed, etc. etc.

Maybe we are too into the hobby to accept a film like this.

The Bear Jew charecter made the film worse than it needed to be.

I tried to watched it while I was camping, stuck in the cabin during a long period of rain.
A friend brought along a selection of DVDs, and this was one of them.
Wasn't tired but found myself drifting off to sleep, and ended up going to another room to play games with the kids, much more entertaining than watching this fantasy drivel, which I thought was a complete waste of an hour of my life.

No offense to those who enjoyed it, I really could not care less about who liked it and who didn't, all movies to a degree will have its share of fans & detractors.
But I got the impression that you needed a morbid, childish personality to get any enjoyment out of something like this, and its really to me a sad sign of the times when large groups of people can point to something like this as artistic entertainment.
Why not throw darts at squirrels from the porch, pull wings off flys, or watch some snuff porn for some equally fun entertainment ?
