Assuming that this helmet is related to National Geographic nazi grave robbers programme and that it might have been found in a grave, the helmet is given all sorts of praise in that thread. I wonder will opinions change if we find out that Gottlieb found it in the same place as that human skull that he is pictured holding.

This is damage limitation and I have seen some speculation that the programme may never air.

The article claims that National Geographic US HQ knew little about the programme and speculates that it may never be shown. I would imagine that NG are horrified by the reception thats its got. As of 3.30 pm GMT they removed the images from the website too.

This video will reappear on the net, probably within the next few hours. These things tend to gain steam when they are banned from Youtube

The images of Gottleib using a woodern stick to pull human remains from the ground and then one of the 'talent' having to hold back the laughter while saying that the soldier was blown apart were horrific. I wonder why they censored it.

This is the worst example of how low national Geographic have sunk with quazi reality tv. I wonder if there will be explosions like in "American Diggers" and Gottlieb shouts "boom baby" or "Nazi baby" when he discovers a grave

At least he is showing great respect for these items making candlesticks out of them! You know... "ultra modern" look dug with care and turned over to a museum my A$$, Traveled home through Finland to avoid customs problems. wonder what NatGeo would think of this?

This series operates in direct conjunction with organizations officially licensed to excavate battlefield sites and adhered to their procedures. All of the excavation featured in the series, including handling of human remains, was supervised by representatives from these organizations, which act under the authority of their country’s government and are also backed by the official German and Russian war graves commissions.

Our team’s operation is in direct contrast to illegal digging and looting of battle sites, commonly referred to as “black digging,” which is a real and ongoing concern in these areas. Despite misinformation being circulated, our show will in fact demonstrate the need for the activities portrayed to be done in an authorized and legal manner. This will be a point of emphasis in the opening of each show, and the series will be complemented by a robust website further exercising this point.

In addition, during filming, our production crew remained in close contact with local museums, including the Latvian War Museum. All relics uncovered by the team were cataloged and photographed and are now in safe storage. Items have been offered to museums. No items were trafficked or sold. The human remains found in the series will be reburied with due ceremony in military cemeteries under the supervision of the relevant war graves commissions.

The title is completely idiotic and actually speaks volumes about what audience they are trying to reach, and all the damage control drivel they are responding with implies they think everyone is an ignorant simpleton.

I grew up watching NG and the nonsense they now put out is a sad testament concerning the state of the English speaking world.

Well as I said in previous posts, I look forward to them digging up dead Brits, Americans, Austrailians, Russians and Japanese in season 2 since we fought some "intense" battles in WW2 as well. No........ not going to do that because you would create a political incident ? But its ok to dig up German soldiers?

I have read that he was a major in the US Marines, how would he and his family feel if he was killed in combat, his body never recovered only for some entitled prick and his idiot mates to dig him up and sell his equipment.

I want to see the German Government step in to stop this being aired, because at the very least it will encourage people to go digging up graves

Closest combat scenario's for the man include a bathroom stall in Louisville, and a French restaurant at this years S.O.S. I am not sure of the medal designations for these, possibly the " The Order of the Snail " and the " Urinal Combat Clasp/w Toilet Tart Star "
